I've posted this guide in hopes to accomplish two things: to point users in the right direction to tweak their computer and to compile all T:V tweaks/fixes into one easy-to-find post. It seems that there's a lot of fixes the community has figured out but the posts get lost in the sea of the forum. So let's try and keep this post up top so it's easy for people to see what they can do to fix their problems. Anyways, let's get to it.

Tweak your BIOS.
The BIOS is a big part of your computer and having even one incorrect setting can cause your computer to have problems or run slow. There's lot of different BIOS's and versions out there that would take a lot of time to right about. So the best place to get information on how to configure your BIOS is at Adrian's Rojak Pot BIOS Optimization Guide (http://www.rojakpot.com/freebog.aspx).

Tweak your OS.
Your operating system is another big part of your system. The defaults for operating systems are usually conservative to make sure everything works for all types of users. Tweaking it to suit the way you want to use it can make everything run much faster. Here's a list of tweaking guides I recommend:
Windows XP
Vyrticl's Windows XP Tweaking Guide (http://home.comcast.net/~vyrticl/vyrt_xp_tweaks_v110.txt) (highly recommended, I stand behind my work 100%)
Tweakhound's Super XP Tweaking Guide (http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/supertweaks1.htm)

*NOTE* If you know of a good tweaking guide for an operating system not listed here tell me so I can list it.

General T:V Tweaks
Well since that's the game you're trying to get running better it's obvious you should tweak that as well. Just as a note, I will not be posting any tweaks that reduce image quality in this section.

Open up your <T:V dir>\Program\Bin\TV_CD_DVD.in i file in Notepad and set the following:

[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
UseTripleBuffering=True
DesiredRefreshRate=[max refresh rate your monitor supports for your t:v resolution]
UseVSync=[True, no screen tearing; False, screen tearing but better performance]

Open up your <T:V dir>\Program\Bin\TribesGUISta te.ini file and set the following:

[Gameplay.TribesGUIConfig]
EntryMenuClass=

I had better FPS in beta05 than demo/retail
This is caused because in beta05 player shadows didn't work even if they were enabled. They started working once the demo came out and people started complaining they didn't get as good of FPS in the demo as the beta05. So this is an easy fix.

Load up Tribes: Vengeance and go to Options > Video and lower Dynamic Shadow Detail.

I have an NVIDIA card and T:V stutters
Do you have random pauses/freezes in-game? Does your game just not seem to run smooth but you get perfectly fine FPS? Some people have found that if you tweak your blitting settings using RivaTuner (http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner&menu=8) that you can fix this problem. Download and install RivaTuner and follow these instructions.

*NOTE* If this tweak doesn't help you, set it back to what it was.

Thanks to RunningWolf for this tweak

Load up RivaTuner and go to Driver settings Customize... > System settings > Compatibility and check all checkboxes that are checkable.

Click "OK", close RivaTuner and restart.

If the above didn't help try this.

Thanks to RunningWolf for this tweak

Load up RivaTuner and go to Driver settings Customize... > DirectX > Blitting and set the following:

Enable wait after blit when DDBLT_WAIT flag is specified: checked
Always wait after blit: checked
Limit the maximum number of queued blits to the frame buffer: unchecked

Click "OK", close RivaTuner and restart.

Improve Network Performance
Thanks to a lot of people for this tweak

Tribes: Vengeance has an option that will automatically adjust your network settings on-the-fly based on how your connection is working. Some people have found disabling this helps increase network performance.

*NOTE* If this tweak doesn't work, re-enable it.

Load up Tribes: Vengeance and go to Options > Network and set the following:

Adjust connection speed while playing: unchecked

If you have any other tweaks/fixes/whatever that would be good to put in this guide speak up! I'll update them into the guide for all to see!

If you want you could submit it to me to put on tvtweaks.com

I'll copy whatever and put a page up. I haven't had time to update it.

It's also okay to just realize T:V is a huge resource hog that's going to require a decent rig to play, or even run a dedicated server.

There's actually people with 6800 GT's who have had problems until they found out about the nvidia stuttering fix. So this doesn't just apply to people with crap systems.

Or even a performance tweak with the memory leak.

Also on riva tuner a good tip that fixed my stuttering problem, was to enable compatibility mode under system tweaks. for example my board is an nforce2 and there was a box that could be checked to enable it.(There are three boxes via, amd, and nforce, depending on your board it might be available for checking)

I don't have to have blittering on or fastwrites off. I have settings ultra high running in high quality mode 4aa 4af, and im using the latest whql'd 66.81 drivers(bfg 6800gt oc'd to ultra speeds), i never get under 40 fps.

Hope this saves some people time, because it took me since the game came out to fix this.

Nice list so far :bigthumb:

I still wonder if my machine isn't beefy enough to run on low/medium settings. I get huge dips in FPS in fire fights. Might be ATI related

2.4 P4 400 FSB
Asus AGP x800 XT 256 Meg
1 gig of RDRAM
Audigy 2 Plat.

I'm using a Radeon 9800 XT and I have everything set to Ultra High except Dynamic Shadow Details which is set to High. So I'm guessing your card isn't the problem, heh. Try installing the Omega Drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net), they include a fix for 256MB cards that has shown to give massive fps boosts.

What do you mean "stutter"? I get 4-5 second freezes randomly. Same issue?

Yes, that would be considered a stutter.

I'll give it a shot then.

I used to get these for 20-30 secs. I put another fan pointing at my vid card and it stopped.

btw Vyrticl,

very good job on the tweak guide. I have seen my guides and I must say yours is quite nice. ;)

You can put it on tvtweaks.com if you want but it would take me some time to change the BBCode to HTML and I'm too lazy to do that :P

Heh, thanks for the comment. The only downside I see to it is it's only in a text file, not in HTML for easy viewing. I could do this if I wanted to but once again I'm too lazy, mwahahahaha. If someone wants to do it I'll guide them along the way :)

Yes but converting to HTML means adding in all the tags and to make it a nice guide it would have to span multiple pages so it wouldn't all just be lumped onto one page and thus be all cluttered. That's what takes time.

Man that completely enrages me! I used to HAVE a 9800 XT but i sold it for 300 and bought this x800.

I installed beta ATI drivers 8.07 i believe which had a fix for the 256 meg card problem but i saw zero difference in preformance. I was going to install the Omega Drivers but i didnt' wanna screw with removing the ATI Controller center.
