The DEFINITIVE Guide to T:V Tweaks & Fixesbora 10-24-2004, 12:39 AM nah, mine is set to 256... Predators Rage 10-24-2004, 12:42 AM nah, mine is set to 256... Mine is 256 as well. To the guy who said its my processor. So you're telling me with every single setting set to low or off and fogging on high I can't expect to see nice steady FPS no dropping down into 20's? Thats pretty ridiculous. The only thing that changes FPS for me is increasing details, that makes it worse then it already is. I bet there is some magical setting somewhere to fix this. "Every single setting" barring a few minor ones, deals entirely with effects or details drawn by your video card. When your system is limited by your processor instead of your video card, relieving the load on your video card by reducing resolution / texture detail / glow effects will do nothing at all to your framerate. Don't critisise the game, its your stupid fault shelling out for a 6800Ultra when you only have a 2.4ghz P4, how clueless can you get? There is no game out at the moment where your processor can pump geometry as quickly as that card can render it, total waste. You could have bought a GT or probably even a 6800 vanilla and would have identical performance. The only settings there that will effect processor load are: Drawing distance World Detail (Only in situations where you're looking at an exploding building or vehicle) And possibly (but maybe not) shadow detail. You might as well whack all the others up to maximum, as your video card isnt going to become a bottleneck anytime soon. TeoH 10-24-2004, 09:12 AM *cough*ATI Catalyst Control Center sucks*cough* There's no reason to install it, the Official ATi drivers are available without the control center, and the AI features can then be controlled through the registry. Writer 10-24-2004, 10:54 AM Try disabling fast writes and also try setting your AGP lower (e.g. from 8x to 4x). Neither of those settings make as much difference to performance as you would think. Also: Try removing/disabling the sound card. Seriously. Creative sound cards can cause some major PCI bus contention issues. If disabling the sound card helps, google the various tweaks that might help a little. Also make sure your sound card is in the correct slot for your motherboard (preferably one that isn't sharing IRQs with any other devices). bora 10-24-2004, 11:53 AM Writer, you nailed a couple of things I'm going to try today. I read about lowering the AGP to 4x last night. Since my BFG comes overclocked, I lowered it back to stock settings - gonna try that out. I was wondering about that soundcard. I just repeated stories about it.... gonna try that as well. BTW, where or how do you find out which pci slot is recommeneded for the soundcard? RunningWolf 10-24-2004, 12:05 PM make sure on your soundcard that when you update it and restart that you go to the folder where it extracted the files and run the ctpaxx file(not sure the entire name) and have it overwrite the files. i know my creative audigy 2 wasn't updated fully untill i did that. It would install the update but wouldnt update the driver.. Definitly get cachemanxp, that helped me so much. bora 10-24-2004, 01:25 PM Update: I lowered my BFG OC (comes overclocked to 350 instead of standard 325) to 325 and haven't had any issues after 4 maps. I have compatability unchecked in Riva and didn't go the route of enabling BLIT. Works for now. I'm running 8x AGP too. The only other tweak I have yet to test is to turn Fastwrites back on. Otherwise, I seem to be in business (knock on wood). Thanks for the tip Wolf, I will check that too. Writer 10-24-2004, 01:33 PM Leave fastwrites off. Seriously, you are looking at less than a 1% performance increase with it on, you will never be able to tell the difference in performance. For all the problems it can cause, that setting should be called "careless writes" instead of "fast writes"..."fast writes" makes it sound too much like something you'd want to enable. As for which PCI slot to use, check FAQs and forums that cover your motherboard, check the motherboard manual, or if all else fails, try it in each slot. Note that the first slot is almost always shared with AGP so never use that if you have an AGP video card installed. Vyrticl 10-24-2004, 01:56 PM Mine is 256 as well. With regards to CPU problems, have you tried tweaking your BIOS? Sometimes BIOS's won't auto-detect certain CPU's if they have a bug in their programming or if the CPU is newer than the motherboard. Check what your CPU speed is in System Properties to make sure it's running at the speed it should be. If it's not try updating the BIOS on your motherboard or manually setting the speed in the BIOS. Also make sure Spread Spectrum is disabled in your BIOS. Also a lot of problems can stem from overheating issues. What temps are your case/cpu/gpu running at? Silence 05-05-2005, 09:25 PM Here is the ultimate T:V tweak: Start->settings->control panel->add/remove programs->Uninstall Tribes Vengeance Enjoy! Haha, I was thinking the exact same. And after you do that, make sure you put the CDs in the microwave, to preserve them... you know. MR Dice 05-06-2005, 09:19 PM Yea Silence and Interceptor, you guys do with them whatever you want. I hear some people are using the CD's to scrape the dried up shit off their asses. Might be soemthing there for ya'all. Not sure why you think your personal triumphs are important enough to post in a thread. but thanks for you contributions neeways. www.uselessmofo.com - they'd luv to hear from you. :) Again, thank you MagicFire, I am finally getting the FV copy this weekend and I look forward to goin [H]! Hope to see ya'all there. :sunny: MonkeyHero 05-07-2005, 10:52 PM You might want to take a look at Big Monkey's old tweaks thread to see if there's anything in there that was missed here. Be careful though because that was originally started during the betas and some of the stuff (mainly custom hud setups) don't work in retail. | ||
