Strez, it's great to see you doing this, I've got a map question on my mind, the map I made, located here : http://www.zoohypothesis.com/tribes/tv/Dropzone_Wasted.zip has one issue in it and I've seen the issue from other maps too. after everything is done and you go to build the map (Generate Map Image) , the progress bar doesnt move and then it vanishes. then I go ingame and it's always the southmost area of the map, only a small maybe 1/ 6th percent of the map is garbled in the command screen. Is the" Generate Map Image " function in TVed broken?

It's most likely that your video card can't handle the map making function correctly. I have exactly the same problem with my nVidia and I had to get other people in the office with ATI cards to generate my map images for me :P

I get the same issue with my 9600. What are the setting on their cards when they generate an image?

Hey. What program did you use to make the wall textures. Like say the Imperial stone with the dirt on the bottom. I like the scratches. How did you make the noise? Its a great foundation texture for a base.

Photoshop, hand drawn texture probably with some photograph texture layered on top

I'm using nVidia... and "make map" outright crashes TVed to desktop without even rendering the first pixel. :mofo:

I'm considering very hard just hand-drawing my command/radar maps. :ugh:

A brand new Nvidia geforce 6800 can't handle the map generation part? what's in that bugger that causes so much havoc...?

On another note, word is from some people that you used WorldBuilder for terrain generation, when I try to import heightmaps into TVed, they end up very jagged, but the maps look very smooth, and if I try to manually smooth them out i crash. Could one of you folks maybe write up a tutorial on heightmap importing for TVed fromt he program used by you folks :D

I take that back...

Am I understanding that the only way to generate a command map for custom maps is via the NON-functional "generate map image" function??

Hoorray!

yes, I'l just make my maps oriented to the horizontal so the scrambled stuff doesnt get in the way

ok turns out the fix is that you need a resolution higher than 1024 x 768. next one should work.

This is for your desktop only, and the main thing that matters is that both dimensions are 1024 or higher. You should have at least 1280x1024, and if your monitor doesn't support that, you can always just send the map to someone who can and have them build the image for you.

this makes sence since it is basically making a screenshot of the map rendered from the top view. It can't make a 1024x texture if your screen res is smaller than the image it is trying to render.

When we made the command maps for the SP missions we would sometime hide static meshes if the covered the top of the base, or delete BSP that is on the top of rooms, render the command map, export the image then close the editor and not save the changes. You can then do some fancy photoshopping, and re-open the map and import the new texture. IF you change your boundary volume - you will have to re-generate your command map, it's size is scaled to the boundary.

luckily i can go higher res. :D

also strez, terrains can be inverted, 180 degrees, but can they be turned 90 degrees at all? I'm thinking of maps with endless falls downwards.

I've got a question that hasn't been raised yet...

How do you make the light part of a static mesh light glow? I've been snooping around looking for something in the properties, but can't seem to locate anything.

(Side note, there's a bug in the editor where spotlights don't display their directional arrow... makes it sorta tough to line 'em up!)

Alright... I'm having a problem. I'm drawing an insignia, with a black outline:
http://img74.exs.cx/img74/2371/ms_shoulder.jpg
For some reason, once I save it as a DDS, it goes all messy:
http://img74.exs.cx/img74/9889/ms_shoulder2.jpg
The colors are bleeding or something, and it gets pixelated. It happens for any other things (text and such) I give black outlines too. I'm a little confused.

DDS is a compressed format 8:1 or thereabouts I think, so with the compression you get loss of quality and artifacts :(

YAY! Weird bug or something:
I'm doing a skinset for the imperial meshes. I started with the light male armor, and it worked great with armskins and shaders and all. After that i did the female and it allso worked when tested it on a self hosted server.

And now we get to the bug!!!
For some reason on a public server the skin doesn't fully work. When you use the inventory stations loadout screen, select the skin, and save that favourite, the skin works. BUT if you use quickfavourites button on the inventory, the skin doesn't show!!!

Things i've tried to do to fix it:
-Changed all filenames, and recreating pointerfile and texture pack file.
-Creating new profile and checked that it should be ok (loadout vice)
-Tested with using the working male skin files, but changing the mesh file to imperialLightFem (didn't work)

So i've come to the conclusion that this might be a bug in tribes, and not a faulty skin.

hey strez, ant, question,

i'm a coder with some background in vector/bitmap graphics as well as flash and director work. I need to jump into this texturing and modeling stuff for t:v stuff, so i guess i have a three part question.

1. are your modelers the same ppl as your texturers?
2. if they're seperate how do the two disciplines intertwine, (points of contention etc)
2. where are the texturing tutorials you recommend for t:v stuff, so i can start absorbing... I already have some 3dsmax tutorials to send me on my way with regard to modeling...
