ZephyrFox 10-17-2004, 04:13 AM OK, I was having a problem where TV would hang at the splash screen. For shazbots and giggles I ran a JIT debugger which spouted mostly meaningless drivel at me. However I did notice a reference to a wbem directory. Google-ing wbem came back with some stuff about the Windows Management Interface. The resource files that WMI uses can occasionally become corrupted and cause a host of different problems. Since I had nothing to lose, I followed the instructions I found at http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBK/tip5200/rh5281.htm.
1. Use the Start menu to right-click My Computer.
2. Press the Manage item.
3. Double-click Services and Applications in the left-hand pane.
4. Press Services to expand it.
5. Scroll to Windows Management Instrumentation in the right-hand pane and right-click it.
6. Press Stop.
7. Use Windows Explorer to delete all the files in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbe m\Repository folder.
8. Shutdown and restart your computer. The Windows Management Instrumentation service will start and the files will be re-created.
Lo and behold, after reboot TV runs yet again. A friend who was getting a CTD tried this and it worked as well. Hopefully it will work for some of the rest of the people having problems.
Vyrticl 10-18-2004, 01:38 PM delete, oops. Disregard this post, heh.
Kryptik 10-18-2004, 07:01 PM Just so people know what this service does, here's a description of the service pulled from www.blackviper.com...
So if you have SP2 installed it might be wise to re-enable this service after you're done playing T:V.
I believe he meant stop the service, delete files and reboot. When you reboot this service will start again automatically because it is installed as automatic startup by default.
Swami050 10-22-2004, 09:06 PM Hey just for anyone who had the same problem as me where my resolution would reset every time i started TV heres a way i found that fixes it do know how but it does.
Go to your TV folder, in the BIN folder and copy the TV_CD_DVD.exe and make another called tv.exe then past it in that same folder. After that create a shortcut which will use the tv.exe to open TV and that fixed it for me!

Deleting it would probably fix things.

Witch 11-30-2004, 04:29 PM WMI is known to eff up. Sometimes even deleting the Repository folder doesn't help. And ofc Microsoft Engineers are like "well dunno" (I actually contacted them once for fun while was bored)
|CO|Kapeket!! 12-07-2004, 02:04 PM NewsFlash: This fix is not just for clientside issues. I used this on our server instance and it fixed all problems with crashes on startup after a recent rebuild and I was having problems with instances crashing on startup. Seems to have fixed that.
Thanks for the tech. =)
