Wow, this thread has now become even less constructive than it started.

Okay, I blatantly ignored a large chunk of the posts. Pretty much par for the course, right? And in turn, this too shall be ignored. Whatever.

I think the only thing T:V really added to the franchise was better graphics and new media like 3D objects, graphics, and sounds. Other than that the 'possibility envelope' is actually less than the other games. Dumbed down.

They did add the buckler and grappler; completely new to the Tribes series (not including mods)...

And no, T:V will likely never be "mainstream", especially not to the degree of half-like or the likes. However, since mainstream games generally annoy the crap out of me, I don't particularily care myself.

Sure, it's not equal, but that doesn't mean there's no correlation. Depth of play is largely decided on the balancing act of the gadgets themselves. If the balance is off, a lot of them are never used and become irrelevant to the depth of play. I still challenge folks to come up with examples of how T:V has significantly increased the depth of play availible beyond, say, T1. If you want bonus points, do it without talking about the number of gadgets.

TV is a quick and easy frag game that becomes boring very quickly imo. Devs tried to attract new players and failed while they lost many old tribes fans cauz they totally dumbed down the game. Bad decison imo, whatever, there will be other nice games besides the tribes series, time for a change.
