I like the idea of style points, but I wish that they were used a bit more. I wish you would get style points taken away for killing yourself (this might discourage some people from point whoring with heavies and then killing themself with a mortar, as they always seem to), but this would of course require them to fix things like it counting as someone killing themself when they die in a vehicle explosion, or when they die from an inventory station exploding.
Can you guys think of trackable circumstances that should gain people extra style points? How about things like:
melee kills
hitting someone with a buckler on the way out and the way back also
Or are these stupid ideas? I do not expect to see them ever get done, but I was just thinking about it for fun ...

e blade kills should always grant style points ;-). mid airing a capper should get more than 1 point. mid airing a grappling capper should get 5 style points and thurn the capper pink for the rest of the map.

Long distance MA's should give you some form of style points.
MA flag grabbing should give you some form of style points.
Heavy O(raping) should give you NEGATIVE style points.

Ah, also -
midair shots with the tank or assault ship shell (only direct hits, not from splash)
killing enemies within certain distance of friendly flag carrier (?)

ooo and there should be gold coins on the ground that we can use to buy style points! Maybe even a store to trade in stuff. Jesus christ the game is capture the flag not see how many points you can rack up MA'ng things.

imo the whole point system is setup pretty nice, but not used, for that matter.
The complete setup is there, but it feels like they said "ok let's do 1 point for everything now, except capping, and sort it out later"
ofcourse, points are everything in tribes :rolleyes:
that doesn't mean the system can't be well evolved.
Killing gens should be more points, sensors and baseturrets aswell. Deployables should give at least 1 point. Buckler should get a stylebonus, aswell as PvP grapples.
Long range ma's should aswell, don't award ma nades though.
And not just 1 for everything... it's not like newplayers will be spooked by this 'complex' scoring system

Well, then add some sort of team points. I prefer teamwork, personally, but honestly if you look how much point whoring there is in the game, even by serious players, it's depressing. I would not be averse to rewarding some kind of points for performing team actions (this is done to a limited degree by rewarding flag returns, gen/inv/sensor repair, etc).

Yeah, I agree, points are crap, generally. But that doesn't mean I don't look at my points at the end of a match ... I think the most important thing is your team's score.

that's why they call them 'individual stylepoints' and not teamworkpoints.
It's not like good players won't get respect if they have low stylepoints... or points at all for that matter

I hope that they fix the bonus point system and the point scoring system because it's broken:
1. Killing enemy 2 feet away from the flag sometimes gives you a bonus for defending your flag but most of the time it doesn't.
2. While defending your flag carrier killing an enemy gives you a bonus for "killing an enemy flag defender."
3. Should get bonus points for defending your flag carrier.
4. Getting 2 hits on enemy with buckler should give a bonus point.
5. While you are at it you really should subtract a point for killing yourself. Seriously every other fps game has this and you should be penalized for killing yourself otherwise nothing discourages people from going on suicide missions.
6. Please please fix all the problems with killing people in vechicles. Most of the time it says they killed themselves and do you get a point for it? Now I seriously doubt that's what was intended.
7. A bonus point for running over/down and killing someone with a vechicle would be cool.
