taronish 10-11-2004, 06:28 PM Ok, I know some folks won't agree with me, but the base smashing on public servers has really gotten out of hand. Do any of you have strategies (other than not playing on public servers, or to STOP BEING SUCH A NEWB, or other genius insights) for stopping them? It's not like I can't kill the incoming heavies, but most of the bases are so open that it's hard to stop them getting a lucky mortar in, and all the more impossible if the whole opposite team is doing heavy offense to smash your base.
Any opinions on this? I thought maybe I could bounce them off with the buckler, but even when they are moving fast, I don't seem to be able to boost them much ... If the heavies are determined to get to your base, there doesn't seem to be much to do.
Any suggestions on how to deal with this tactic are much appreciated.
Razer 10-11-2004, 06:30 PM The best way to stop it is to suit up in heavy yourself, and go smash their base. You'll reduce their ability to suit up in heavy armor, reducing their ability to smash your base.
[4M]Kenny 10-11-2004, 06:30 PM The best way is to take down their base.
Senty 10-11-2004, 06:32 PM mortars, rep packs to clean up after
Burners should take them out fast, you might also want to try mines and turrets (never on the top of something always next to it where it's slightly hidden otherwise they're disced from miles away)
El_Hefe 10-11-2004, 06:33 PM knock them off their route and hope to distract them while "hopefully" some teammates are repairing the base..

taronish 10-11-2004, 06:34 PM The worst map I've seen for it so far is Spiridian (I may not have
spelled it correctly, but you get the drift) ... Both bases get hammered
so bad and neither team really pays any attention to whatever incidental
flag running happens.
I was amazed to find that when I was on a server where people were NOT
hell bent on base rape that it was a pretty fun map to play.
LivinDeath 10-11-2004, 06:35 PM Good question.. Several answers.
1) You have an immunity timer.. Get out of the base, naked if need be, as fast as possible. Do not wait in line for an inven to be repaired.
2) Fight the heavies outside of the base, rather than inside. Turrets should go outside or near their entrance points..
3) Destroy their base(s) so they can't suit up
4) (more advanced), learn their routes, and knock them off their course. If they are good, they will probably be in the air most of the time, only way to take them then is to disk them in the air (not hard at all really once you know where they are coming from). The fighter is good for newbies for this task as well
Senty 10-11-2004, 06:37 PM Oh yeah if you're HD a mortar round is good for screwing up their route, also speedpack + chain while they come in.
TF_Baxter 10-11-2004, 06:37 PM Kenny']The best way is to take down their base.
You don't even need to be in heavy armor to do this on many maps.
Zxqv8 10-11-2004, 06:38 PM Also, do NOT underestimate the value of the blaster. With a speed pack scavenged from one of the many HOs you can tear any heavy a new a-hole in seconds, especially in closed quarters.

Greywolf 10-11-2004, 06:43 PM A mortar does well, but that only stops them for a small while and unless ur team has atleast 1 braincell(which most dont it seems) another 2 will get in ur base while ur killing that 1
Senty 10-11-2004, 06:44 PM Good point, eff the route up with a disc midfield then?
Worst HO is grapple HO in Cavern can't do nothing but chain or burner till they get in the base
BitRaiser 10-11-2004, 06:47 PM Yup... mid-field skirmishers are the best way to foul up HOs.
They can't smash what they can't get to.
KnightMare 10-11-2004, 06:50 PM blind them with the targeting laser
Senty 10-11-2004, 06:53 PM blind them with the targeting laser
burner does that pretty well can't see shazbot with that exploding all around me.
-ivan 10-11-2004, 07:07 PM Tell them there is cake and punch back at their base.
Benzer 10-11-2004, 07:10 PM Also, do NOT underestimate the value of the blaster. With a speed pack scavenged from one of the many HOs you can tear any heavy a new a-hole in seconds, especially in closed quarters.

This technique works really well if you can catch them outside.
menes 10-11-2004, 07:43 PM The best way is to stop them midway b4 they reach ur base.
Once they reach base its difficult to stop mortars from entering ur base since thy're easily penetrated
[4M]Kenny 10-11-2004, 07:44 PM I am amazed at how fast you can take a base down in spawn gear. It is not the most fun thing in the world: spawn, hit the launch ramp, ski into gen room, dump nades, rinse repeat. Two or three runs gives your base time to recover and you can get back to O-sniping and Pod spamming in no time :)
Buk Naked 10-11-2004, 07:49 PM Whatever you're hitting them with, just remember to throw nades at the same time - really speeds up the process.
