Yeah, I noticed this this morning. It is pretty sad, my company has a "backup" line to the net, that we aren't currently using so I stuck a dedidated server on it. It was a ghost town all weekend.

From what I've heard from friends is, the demo impressed them, they were excited again about Tribes, but when they got the full version, it offered nothing new that the demo didn't. Most demo's "keep things away" from the public, kinda like the proverbial "dangling the carrot in front of the horse", and this wasn't the case. The only thing that was new to offer were the few extra maps, which to be honest haven't really impressed me with size.

The people I normally play with are going to return their copy of T:V, claiming that the SecuROM caused the game to not play on their system and get their money back.

I will have to agree with them, and don't blame them one bit. I for one am considering returning the game myself. Not much differnet than the demo.

The T2 launch was awesome.
Buggy as hell, but so fun you kept trying to get it working.

Keeping faith is a hard thing to do in the Tribal universe

Dissapointment is actally a tribes feature.

I couldn't even play t2, so I gave up for a month, came back in may, and everything worked again.

Everyone who was high off T1 bought T2, not to mention the usual new audience.

However most vets who liked T1, saw just what an atrocity T2 was in terms of gameplay (dumbing down of strats and personal skill) and promptly uninstalled never to play again (or perhaps had to wait nearly a year before classic was finally put in an acceptable form).

It took me one week of crappy gameplay, considerable whining, and UE's to finally destroy any glimmer of interest I might have once had.

As for why T:V isn't doing well.. I have no idea. The majority of gamers out there are idiots, what can I say.

I remember being depressed after the T2 launch because my damned Voodoo Banshee wouldn't run it. Lucky me, my girlfriend bailed me out and picked up a new vid card(now THAT is a damned fine lady!), so I was up and running in a couple days.

Didn't stop playing for weeks... except to give her turns.

I think people are getting a little nuts about this release. It's only been avalible in Canuck Land for a couple days and still isn't selling outside North America. When the Brits and Auzzies get ahold of it, we should see a numbers increase.

In the mean time, it's them damned Yanks that ain't pickin it up!
Blame America!!
:p

Ima wait a few weeks and see how the thing turns out with lowered prices and releases everywhere before I say it is a failure.

cs:s plus doing the mp majorly wrong in terms of base location. it's sad the sp has more impressive outdoors with larger scale than the mp. but the bases are just so close together in all the mp... I think it's the closest I've seen them for an entire set of levels for a multiplayer game... not to mention this is TRIBES for crap's sake, a problem like that is the last thing people expect. they want huge outdoors so they can actually plan, play defensively, and it doesn't help that skiing is pure broken garbage right now, and the land seems to have been designed for previous stats and is very poorly responsive...

if there's a saving grace, it's that the community can do whatever it wants and not do the same bad moves

I think we should all face the fact that the T:V physics aren't that fun. It's a pain in the ass to get around in the game, which is a crying shame, because it feels like work to get around. It's just not enjoyable to ski around because the skiing is so clunky and the jets are so weak.

T2 base was ass, but there was so much to do inside the base deploying or piloting or using useless things, that you could have some fun screwing around (taking some conc nades and messing with people in cloak, or SLing uber slow heavies. Classic improved on it, and even though the physics were simple (find a big hill and go), it was still pretty fun to ski around in Classic. Classic skiing was ok, but there was enough depth in the game that you could screw around if you didn't feel like dueling all game.

T:V feels clunky to ski around in, no idea why, but it feels like the jets do nothing and the skiing is bumpy as hell. The terrain doesn't help, but I don't think that's the problem. A disc can take a heavy off his route and strand him in one shot. There is just tons of crap lying around, pipes sticking out everywhere and little edges and rocks all over the place. It takes almost SIX seconds for a light to recharge all of his energy, which could be fixed if the jets gave more thrust or there was some sort of STRONG jump (oops no go -- jump + jet was too complex for our feable little minds), as it is, on the larger maps you're stranded a good 3 seconds after gettting to the top of a tall building.

It's not fun, sorry you all can argue against me all you want, but I put up with base T2 for a while, stuck with Base++ and truly liked Classic. Played T1 for a LONG time... this game just isn't doing it for me in it's current state. I'll stick with it and hope they fix it in short time, but I'm kind of saddened by. I really wouldn't reccomend T:V if I was a new player to the genre, it's actually kind of boring (but then again I thought UT and Q3 were boring games and they sold well).

Johnny X: I dissagree with just about everything you said. Further, I might sugest that there are meds you can take to deal with your ADD problem.

I don't agree with this at all. I get around just fine. Reminds me more of t1 than t2 ever did. Even classic.
