BrightEyes 10-12-2004, 12:07 AM Excuses last only so long, then reality hits. buize 10-12-2004, 12:07 AM I preordered it and put enough money on it that I had to pick it up. I installed it, played the 1st level of SP, and haven't played since. It isn't keeping me interested like T1/T2 did. Hell, I upgraded when I bought T1 so I could play, then upgraded again when T2 came out. Maybe it'll be patched up to the par of its prequels. Undisciplined 10-12-2004, 12:08 AM Johnny X']I think we should all face the fact that the T:V physics aren't that fun. It's a pain in the ass to get around in the game, which is a crying shame, because it feels like work to get around. It's just not enjoyable to ski around because the skiing is so clunky and the jets are so weak. I disagree completely. Jets in T:V are the most powerful of any of the games (though to a lesser extent now than it was in Beta, where it had even more vertical thrust). You now can manipulate yourself in the air, which while subtle, makes a WORLD of difference. Skiing is the smoothest this time around too, though it may not yet have the nuances that the previous games had, but it is in no way clunky. dudeman 10-12-2004, 12:32 AM I totally disagree, the jets stink because vertical ability needs to be at least 2.5 times stronger... you're not flying at all in t:v you are taking very wimpy hops for someone in a jetpack... and skiing is well intended but the fact that you are stuck going straight is not only really dumb it's senseless because it doesn't even turn based on the land let alone let you turn... I see what you mean about the t:v engine having the potential to have more precision and better mechanics, but in they aren't done all that great, maybe 70% or higher of your best movement will be with grappler help ]S3[Auto|MaG 10-12-2004, 12:35 AM Stopped by 2 best buys tonight, both didnt have it. Still had the pre-order boxes on the shelf. angrycoder 10-12-2004, 12:39 AM Amen to most of what Johnny X said. There just isn't enough of a distinction between a heavy's jets and a light's with an energy pack. T2 was far better the day it came out :( Bridger 10-12-2004, 12:40 AM Would the ability to change direction while skiing fix the biggest physics issues you guys have with the game? That's the only thing i really want out of it... JohnnyX 10-12-2004, 12:57 AM Which games are you using for a reference? The T1 jets would take you a good 60m up in the air light with e-pack, as soon as you landed withing a couple of seconds you could get some distance off the building with a strong jump (t1 jump is crazy compared to others), and a short burst of jet. You need to not confuse the "magic" air movement that was added with actual jet control. T2 Classic you could do a similar maneuver, but the jump was weaker. The jets would take you a lot further up, so there was a lot of air to air fighting. T:V you jet, and as soon as you run out of juice you land and have to run around and pray your opponent sucks because you can't jump and fire a short burst of jet, you just have to wait a second or two until your jumpjet can get you farther than the splash of a disc. It takes like a quarter of your energy to get off the ground outside the radius of a disc blast. A second or two is an eternity in Tribes. There are a whole slew of things that make it seem clunkier than it is, the weapons taking up 1/4th of the screen, giant flags, having all sorts of extraneous parts and the players hand in the way in first person, the crazy gravity which seems to be an overreaction to T2's float whines. The fact that a disc can bring a heavy to a dead halt even if it hits to the side of him... The game needs to be sped up, period. The skiing needs to be smoother and more forgiving, I don't think anyone will complain that the skiing is too fast. And the weapon switching and control needs to feel crisper, I shouldn't hit a little bump in the terrain (scale of terrain to player is another thing) and be tossed off my route and unable to recover because the recharge is rediculous and the jets do nothing. The only other thing that bothers me is the redundant anti-base rape systems. The only thing needed is multiple spawn points and perhaps a single hand nade for spawning tribers. Multiple nades, invincible spawn, and random spawn locations are redundant and prevent bases from being held on most maps of the time. Holding bases was part of T1/T2, and it's not a factor in T:V at all. I'll save that for another thread though... LoVer 10-12-2004, 02:09 AM Amen to most of what Johnny X said. There just isn't enough of a distinction between a heavy's jets and a light's with an energy pack. T2 was far better the day it came out :( Right, I remember those glorious days of t2 release. :( Erga 10-12-2004, 03:34 AM Johnny X'] there was so much to do inside the base deploying or piloting or using useless things, that you could have some fun screwing around (taking some conc nades and messing with people in cloak, or SLing uber slow heavies. Classic improved on it, and even though the physics were simple (find a big hill and go), it was still pretty fun to ski around in Classic. Classic skiing was ok, but there was enough depth in the game that you could screw around if you didn't feel like dueling all game. That's the one thing I miss in T:V, all the toys you could mess around with in T2 seem to have dissappeared. Cloaking & ammo packs, conc. grenades, flares, spider and landspike turrets, rocket launcher & shocklance. T:V seems to be mighty simplified in comparison. That's just me though. I still think T:V is a great game, and you can't just take T2, re-package and add a new title to it and claim you have a new game too... | ||
