Aight Its been a while since i got some new memory.

I currently have:

1 Stick of DDRAM 512MB, 64X64, PC-2100, C2.5

After playing tv the past few weeks it is aparant that I need some more memory. I would like to go for 1 gig, so another stick.

What would you recommend? I assume that if I were to get a higher rated memory like say 3200 it would by default only run at 2100 because of my older ram.

Should I just go with another stick of 512 pc2100? Is this exceptionally slow ram these days? I got it over 2 years ago.

As always thanks for the help and suggestions.

I can get 512 for say 80 dollars from newegg.

If i were to get a 1 gig stick, or 2 sticks of 512 faster rated memory it would be much more expensive.

yes, so it is pointless to buy 1 stick of faster memory

What does your mobo support? If you have the money buy 2 sticks of the fastest memory your mobo supports. If you don't have the money or your mobo only supports pc2100 buy an additional pc2100 stick. With a CAS of 2.5 I would recommend Corsair value select memory. It is pretty good and works with a wide range of mobos.

PC3200 is $80 for a Corsair 512 stick. Should work on your mobo unless the mobo is supremely old.

but then id need to spend 160 for 1gig.

edit: or just let the expensive ram run at sub par performace...

1. See what the fastest your mobo supports (prolly 2700)
2. Buy 2x512 sticks
3. Sell the other one to offset cost
