T:V Purchases

its just funny 2 weeks ago poeple would defend tv with there life, now people arnt defending it ? this game was doomed even before it came out in fact it was doomed when they decided too use the unreal engine which according to some posts was done because the choosen dev team had used the ut engine, and didnt want to learn tribes engine, they had 3 years to make a game god look at ut or fifa, bf1942 and its spin offs every year they brought out a game and yes they do sell fifa sells a lot, so it does show you extreme change = no sales, light gradual changes make sales. tv is a extreme change thus no sales.

Maybe it's because we're playing the game instead of whoring the forums with 't:v sucks, waaah' threads.

no just shows how many disagree with tv and the way its has all been done. the game is a failure, the only way now for it , is for the price to be lowered. i really think some of the royalties should go to the mod designers for tv because coming to a conculsion they might be the 1s that actually save the game.

why because the devs promised a lot and now there nowhere too be seen.but there are making other games so why should they stay.

They gave us everything they promised, they also said that not everyone will like the game or the changes they made. And they were correct. And poll results in this thread shows that they did the right thing.

Best thing about T:V is that i see T1 and T2 players and teams playing the same game now. Its like Q3 of Tribes series.

Majority of Tribes players never read forums, they play. When new game comes out there is always people whining how it sucks and how it will fail until they notice that they were wrong and move on (hopefully).

The majority of people don't understand how light switches work. When they flip the switch and nothing happens, they assume that their god is being mean to them. :D

Could you please tell me, since you seem so intelligent, what a 3d engine does?

And besides, what do you mean with the "tribes engine"? The engine of T1? If so, that invalidates all of your points and shows that you don't know anything about software development.

I believe the Star Wars series has been a success. (I certainly have enjoyed them) They, at one point, had their own engine. I believe that is history and they use a commercial engine. Isnt that correct? Id's maybe? (I might be confusing Star Wars with Star Trek which I am certain is an Id engine).

star trek : elite force used the quake 2 engine, and part 2 used the quake 3 engine. only star wars game that was good was KotOR, and that used it's own .. same with BattleFront.

JK used Q2 engine as well .. and JK2 used the Q3 engine .... both were average sales wise ....

JK( Dark Forces 2 ) didn't use Q2's engine, if that's what you mean.. JK came out before Q2. JK2( Outcast ) used the Q3 engine, as did JK( Jedi Academy ).

JK DF2 was one of the great fps's of it's time, I'd rank it up there with KotoR, but I might be a little biased since that's where my MP career started..( MSN Zone holla )

no thanks, T2 was always too slow for me. I could care less if TV doesnt have the numbers, as long as theres enough for some full servers, i'm good to go. If TV dies as fast as you hope it does, i'll just play DoW. I wont ever load up t2 again.

Bought and enjoy, but would be even happier if we all played T1. :\

this game was a big rip. the sp was good but the mp is worse than some games that aren't even majorly mp games! far cry 1.3 patch came out today for example, and I can recall more fond memories of assualt than anything in T:V. It seems like the whole time with T:V I kept saying this has to work, it's tribes, it'll get fun. Instead it's an utter let down with a mp so lamed I play it maybe 20 mins a day if that. And that's just out of obligation, I payed for the damn thing. Just a warning, don't buy it. Irrational totally whiffed out on the MP and that's what tribes is.

dudeman, I've got a starving teammate who needs a copy. Would you be willing to part with yours at discount? He does graphic art, so maybe some kind of trade?

Bought it, and don't like it anymore. I was really looking forward to it, but I don't get the same addiction or the adrenaline-pumping feeling of T2 Classic for example. At this point, even Planetside looks more like Tribes to me then T:V.

Pros:
Great physics
Not as buggy as T2 at release
Easy to learn

Cons:
SP is so-so (especially compared with Far Cry, D3 and HL2 just around the corner). I didnt even bother to finish it.
MP just feels shallow and been there, done that. It lacks the freedom of options you had in T2C.
I don't like the artwork (The first two games had their own distinctive styling that set them apart from the rest and it still looks good), but I guess I could become used to that after some time.
Netcode isnt as smooth as T2.
Vehicles are a joke. I'd rather have strong vehicles, and a strong AV weapon, then useless vehicles and a non-existing AV weapon.

Then again, thats just me.

I'm waiting for modders/mappers to come up with something good before I might consider playing it again.
