driving land vehicles

Hey guys (IG),

The driving in the land vehicles needs to be adjusted. I brought this up during the beta and got no response, the but current driving scheme is horrible.

I know you tried to incorporate two good driving schemes, the way you drive vehicles in Halo (mouselook steers vehicle), and UT2k4 (steering via keyboard). However, this DOES NOT work. There are many of us that steer with the keyboard, and every other game out there, UT2k4, BF1942, Planetside, all steer the same, the REAL way. By that I mean, if you are driving forward and press the key to make you turn right, your vehicle turns clockwise. When you drive backwards and hit the same key, you should turn counterclockwise, but instead, you back up turning clockwise.

This does not happen in other games with keyboard controlled steering, and it does not happen in my Wrangler, or any other car on the road today.

I know you wanted to integrate, and tried to integrate two good driving schemes, but it just doesn't work. Pick 1, or allow the user to pick which they prefer, and IF/WHEN they choose keyboard, make the steering act normal, ie when moving forward and turning right, I turn clockwise, and when backing up and turning right, I should turn counter clockwise.

Agreed---it's a pain to drive the tank the way I want to. It would be nice to have an option to use the keyboard for turning/back/right and to use the mouse for moving the turret.

Just like UT2004, actually.

Yeah... the Tank in UT04 is prolly the best version of pilot is the gunner tank I've seen to date.

I still preffer (and I know a lot of you will hate me for saying it) to have the gunner and pilot positions seperated. This gives you an excuse to ramp the things UP since it takes more player resources to make it an effective field asset.

Then again, I never understood the whining over "forced teamwork" either. If a game is about teamwork... er... shouldn't there be elements that are more effective when you use them together? (don't hand me nuttun about the CG position in the tank... it's so unsatifying that getting someone to gun for you is bleedin rare!).

I'd like to see the rover act a bit more like the Warthog in Halo, what with the sliding at high speed when you turn and so forth. But that's me.

I like T:V's way

I hate UT2k4's way :(

Well i can see their response right now....
"If you want that way, play that game, otherwise live with it"

which i totally agree with

What is so good about T:V's tank drive system which makes it better than UT2004?

Should I save this quote and reply with it every time you whine? I'm quite sure that you will not like something along the way.

Not a good response. This is called feedback. Feedback on somethere where the developers tried to incorporate 2 different driving schemes, which are so different, and doesn't work it's confusing.

If they wanted to incorporate both, they should have given us an option on which way we want to drive.

Well, for one thing UT2k4's system seems to be better suited to a joystick or other analog device. If you want an intermediate amount of turning, you have to tap the keys, holding them down leads to a turn that is far greater than you might have wanted.

It's a bit tough to explain really.

My feedback counters your feedback.

All vehicles in T:V should just be replaced by the warthog from halo. If Halo got anything right it was that vehicle's physics.

Does it Matter how high the sensitivity is for a TANK? It is slow as hell already.

I would rather have a FREE LOOK with a turret and be able to STRAFE & move, than to be forced to drive DIRECTLY (or slightly off with a crappy strafe) at Target while aiming at it (which is how T:V system works)

"Clean" keyboard-steering would be much better, especially in the tank when you want to shoot in a different direction that what you are driving in.
