A standalone server or working ucc.exe server would have avoided the entire situation regardless of what copy protection was used..

True... but who is it that desided to shorten the Dev cycle when there were outstanding features yet to be completed?

How so? Feel free to fill me in if I'm missing something.

As has been stated by countless people, IG could have very, VERY easily had the dedicated server out; whether or not VU is at fault with regards to not having dealt with the cd-checking correctly has yet to be determined. Instead they spent time renaming the armors among other things, neither side had anyone here come release day. With a little planning this could have EASILY been taken care of when it was (appearently) identified during the closed beta; this bugs me because not fixing identified problems in the closed beta was exactly the M.O. from T2.

Might I remind you that even IF the cd requirement wasn't around, it would still require an upload to these dedicated servers of not one, not two, not three, but four cd images to install the game. Simply put, there was no planning or thought to who was going to host the servers for their MP; someone just assumed that the community would wave its 'magical server wand' and populate the full game with servers as it had with the beta and demo.

Um, standalone server package was requested well before the last week of development.

In terms of moving a game back or forward week, 99 times out of 100 - the call is going to be from the studio. Much like 9 times out of 10, if a game isn't done but the Publisher is tired of the constant delays (t2) - it will create a final deadline by which the game must be out the door.

Edit: In addition, the game went gold September 21st, are you telling me they couldn't code a dedicated server application in those 15 days, but if they waited an extra week to go gold and then subsquently shipped a week after that - they would have released the dedicated server application? Either way you cut it, they had 2 full weeks post gold to get a dedicated server out the door and blew it.

Requested, yes, but they were on a killer tight schedual. Remember Carving? They were big into getting that implemented... but it had to be dropped. How about that in-game Tribal linking/tag thing? Had to tie it off since it was still in a development state.

I'm sure they are working on a dedicated server package and have been for awhile. According to their alotted time line, they had until next week to get it done.

So why is nobody from Irrational here now? I haven't seen anyone here all day, and today is the day the game is hitting the stores.

Uh, because it's only just 8:25 in the AM here?

We should blame SecuROM more than IG or even VUG. VUG should be blamed mostly for putting SecuROM on in the first place....but in all honesty...SecuROM is not a good thing in any situation. Since when did loading CD's from your hard drive become a bad thing?

I'm not at your personal beck and call, Supertrap. I'll address what I think needs addressing when I think it's appropriate.

YEAH!! Please, please, PLEASE blow me out of the water if I'm totally off base here!

Did you guys know that SecuROM was going in?

I also understand perfectly if you cannot comment freely on the subject. In that case a "STFU Bit!!" From any IG staffer will do nicely ;)

You have an opinion on the game, that's fine. Everyone does. Want to insult me personally? Get bent. I'll delete the message.

For the rest of you, bear with us. Your concerns are being duly noted. I'll get back to you as soon as I know something concrete.
