Animal 10-06-2004, 03:34 PM Someone tell us, who has the game and has played it, how many freaking servers there are right now!!!
There were about 6 when I went. I pinged 300 to each one. The guys said they were running them off of their dsl. GJJGJGJGJGJGJGJGJ
Asura 10-06-2004, 03:35 PM :ftardkill:
Vampire 10-06-2004, 03:36 PM Oops on an Epic Scale
Bodom 10-06-2004, 03:37 PM what idiots
Destiny 10-06-2004, 03:37 PM KP ... you better get your coders on a fix for this and i mean NOW. This has the potential to KILL this game before anyone even gets to see it.
Gandalf 10-06-2004, 03:38 PM This whole fiasco is glaringly absent from any response from VU, Sierra, or IG.
Like I said earlier, I've been hosting servers since around 1998. Not just tribes, but T2, BF, BF:V, T:V beta, T:V demo, etc.
This is the FIRST time I've run across a company that requires a friggin CD in the drive to run a dedicated server. This is the ultimate in "FU" to the community who supports this game more than just the average player. Instead of the game publisher having to provide the resources to host servers for online play, the community server admins provide this service for free. Sometimes, they're required to expend cash out of their own wallet to do so, in hosting fees, bandwidth costs, server costs, etc. Now, on top of all this, we're required to buy an additional game license just to host the server for the community?
If that wasn't the intent, then where the eff is the dedicated standalone server? This should've been released yesterday. And who the eff authorized this shazbot? Don't you give a flying eff about your loyal customers?
This is beyond pathetic and lame.
Falhawk 10-06-2004, 03:38 PM its kinda funny. I anticipated that people here would find SOMETHING to bitch about for T:V.
I didn't think it would be something that is a legit complaint though.
lol
Asura 10-06-2004, 03:38 PM a cookie to [let's not make idle threats that someone might take seriously]!

TheGrudge 10-06-2004, 03:40 PM I'm sure someone has said this already... but...
Not only am I completely surprised by this bullshazbot.... but I am extremely offended that none of the devs (or ANYONE else who has any sort of official status) has responded to any of this. The fact that they wont even say one word to us about it... is a slap in the face.
Killjoy 10-06-2004, 03:41 PM This shazbot is bullshazbot
JimBodkins 10-06-2004, 03:41 PM Does IG have experience with specifically online multiplayer? I'm not totally familiar with them, but I doubt it. I suspect this game 'went out the door' the same way system shock 2 did.
You have to know that the programmers ('ant) know this is a booboo. I'm sure we wont hear from them for job security reasons.
Stay cool. Two things;
1) TWL, TW, server leasors etc (organizations) need to request a resolution formally. (IMO)
2) Someone privately needs to do a no-cd hack.
System shock 2, this approach is ok. Tribes online? We know, they need to be told.
Stay positive, the game works. Just move toward a solution to this problem. (I cant imagine, after this is fixed, what might stop T:V)
I'll be playing SP :)
JimBodkins 10-06-2004, 03:42 PM I'm sure someone has said this already... but...

They are employees. They wont respond. Would you jepardize your job? Do you have a job? :)
FantasticDamage 10-06-2004, 03:42 PM I'd like to pretend that this is all Vivendi's fault.
crouton 10-06-2004, 03:42 PM epic indeed. Monumental. I can see it now....
Random IGA Intern: Guys, won't the community need a stand-alone dedicated server?
Random IGA Dev: OMG, you're right! We'll get right on it!
RII: How long is that going to take? They'll get pretty pissed....
RID: Oh, they'll play the SP mode for lack of anything better. Better yet, someone will host a server on their phat DSL lines and get disconnected by their ISP for exceeding bandwidth. My guess is 1-2 weeks before they hijack a tanker, come to Australia, and beat the everloving shazbot out of us. And then steal all our hot Australian women.
Asura 10-06-2004, 03:42 PM like i said, TW is going to get few answers. IG got their checks, only out of the goodness of their hearts do they have to answer us.

it's like 3 am in australia FYI.
that doesn't excuse menzo.
VektorX 10-06-2004, 03:46 PM man alive
people are gonna buy this game today and tomorrow
install, goto multiplayer, and see like 10 effing servers with 300ms ping being all full
they'll play SP for about an hour, and uninstall.
This could kill the game if a patch isn't released in the next 24 hours i think. I could be wrong tho
FU CK IT
im blaming Dave G
