BitRaiser 10-06-2004, 01:46 PM It occured to me that the 1.01 patch might just be an attempt to cut down on early warz distributions. I'd bet anything that you will need to verfiy your CD and CDkey during patching...
This would explain the totally cryptic content comments on it and why there's no update information at all.
If true, it's not a bad idea at all. Warz do hurt the industry.
Whatcha folks think? Plausable or is the wee... er medication getting to me?
Amadeus 10-06-2004, 01:48 PM So what would keep people from warezing 1.01?
fraidykat 10-06-2004, 01:48 PM good thought
fraidykat 10-06-2004, 01:48 PM So what would keep people from warezing 1.01?
Nothing, but it will take them a bit longer now...
Amadeus 10-06-2004, 01:49 PM Because?
you cant play online without a valid cd key so no, you are wrong.
Zxqv8 10-06-2004, 01:49 PM Time for 1.02 then.
TheGrudge 10-06-2004, 01:49 PM Sounds like a good way to stop the warez... at least from playing multiplayer. The only people that can answer if the patch asks for the cd-key are the people who have the game and have patched it. Anyone?
KnightMare 10-06-2004, 01:49 PM I think its to fix the $400 video card bug.
fraidykat 10-06-2004, 01:51 PM Because?
because if they need a valid cd key for the patching process they will have to get a real copy?
Amadeus 10-06-2004, 01:51 PM because if they need a valid cd key for the patching process they will have to get a real copy?
But if they warez 1.01 then they won't need to patch.
fraidykat 10-06-2004, 01:53 PM But if they warez 1.01 then they won't need to patch.
I'm not sure what you're saying here. "If they warez the patch they won't need to patch?"
BitRaiser 10-06-2004, 01:54 PM and if I had some ham, I could make ham and eggs... if I had some eggs.
MaD_ReBeL 10-06-2004, 01:56 PM uhmm you cant play online iwthout a valid CD key. how exactly does having a 1.01 patch do anything again?
fraidykat 10-06-2004, 01:57 PM uhmm you cant play online iwthout a valid CD key. how exactly does having a 1.01 patch do anything again?
Didn't people get around the cd key problem in beta?
MonkeyHero 10-06-2004, 01:58 PM the patch doesn't require a cd key. It fixes some of the bugs that we saw in the demo like smoking invs that were at full health.
BitRaiser 10-06-2004, 02:00 PM Keygens exist.
If you were to DL a warz version of 1.01 and the patch program looks for a valid CD, yer boned. Thus 1.01 would kill off any leaked early copies that might have shown up or the first day rippsters.
You also can't patch, then rip the game.
tkmaster234 10-06-2004, 02:03 PM look if people wanted there is always a way around the cd-key issue...
ever heard of cracked servers
unfortunatly pirates have found a way to make a cracked server that will allow pirated copies to be played online.. (the catch is you can only play on cracked servers)
MaD_ReBeL 10-06-2004, 02:03 PM Didn't people get around the cd key problem in beta?
uhmm ... what 'problem' pray tell? all you had to do was sign up on fielplanet and they gave you one for free. people dont usually warez things they can get for free anyways.
i do believe that in the past people have circumvented half-life and i recall in Q3 you could guess keys that would sometimes work with a key-gen but those were all pretty short lived cracks.
i dont ever remember reading about people reliably bypassing online CD key checks.

 yeah that would work because the patch was out before it was released
