crouton 10-06-2004, 02:00 PM VUG is, and Sierra always was good at killing games.
This comment is dead-on. When profits rule, everything else falls by the wayside. When was the last time Sierra produced a high-quality game? How about VUG and EA - how many studios have been closed in the name of profits?
Marketing is *essential* to get the word out. When you have a great product with shazbotty packaging and shazbotty advertising, who is going to buy it? Word of mouth and your online review sites only carry a game so far.
MakaveliBC 10-06-2004, 02:01 PM We will see a Tribes 4, or Vivendi will be sorry. :roller:
The reviews alone will hopefully spur many gamers who may be on the fence, to go out and discover what Tribes is all about. I don't believe this game is "destined" for failure, quite the contrary I think.
Breadman86 10-06-2004, 02:02 PM Arcanox, those are some good ideas. Have some blank CDs around? Care enough? Burn the demo! They'll do what you ask if you give them stuff, but not if they have to do it on their own!
MagicFire 10-06-2004, 02:05 PM T2 had 5k players during peak times. If it can't get that then it can officially be declared a failure.Well, the T:V MP demo never had that many and it's free!
EDIT: A combined SP/MP Demo shipped with the major gaming magazines would help a lot.

I'd actually be shocked if I saw 5k players online at once. Tribes is going to be a niche game. As long as there are enough people so that there is always a giid pub to play on, I see no problem.
-CPL- 10-06-2004, 02:14 PM i luv how people call things failures only moments after playing it. Most likely just got disc in the face by some noob, and are here to biznitch about it because they cant yell chain whore or o sniper....

lol thanks for actually reading the post
to tell you the truth, the entire time i was typing that and even now while i'm typing this to you, the game is still sitting in my CD tray installing. i had to find something to complain about, i mean come on! :)
Code4 10-06-2004, 02:20 PM That is pretty effed up that their are pics of a different game on the game's box.

Pachacutec 10-06-2004, 02:20 PM The only thing destined for failure is this thread.

Didn't the pre-order come with a copy of T2?
T:V will be shown at WCG this year. :D

I got two boxes, the game and an additional content box. Did they give you the correct box? (Pre orders got the additional content as a bonus. I didnt pre order, but they gave me one anyway. I'm going to play the SP :) ).
The community needs to start a publicity campaign. Email campaigns to magazines, website promotions etc. The game wont die on merit, just lack of effort. (Which may happen from the companies but might not).
Talk it up.
pyrot3chnic 10-06-2004, 03:43 PM You forgot to mention no linux support. While not the end of the world, every little thing that repels a few players here and there will eventually add up to a very significant number..
-Geist- 10-06-2004, 03:48 PM I'm not quite sure this thread is as funny as I first thought it was.
mc-fine 10-06-2004, 04:14 PM You guys are like fat pregnant women. All you do is bitch moan and over analyze everything.
The only thing worth mentioning is dedicated server. Thats just... duh.

You actually stopped suckling long enough to type all that out?
guy.welch 10-06-2004, 07:22 PM Trial is really what will help drive this game. Thanks to all who posted stories about sharing Tribes Vengeance with others through the multiplayer demo.
You've helped drive the numbers on the multiplayer demo up, up, up over the last week so that we've been in the top 20 of ALL PC MULTIPLAYER games tracked by GameSpy (http://www.gamespy.com/stats/).
Remember that even Counter-Strike wasn't built in a day...
I'm tapping this message out as we're setting up here in lovely downtown San Francisco at World Cyber Games ready to spread the gospel of Tribes with all comers. This event has truly taken over downtown and has received national media coverage. We're hoping to make a great impression.
If you're in the area come down and visit us in the large tent. We printed special Tribes Vengeance posters and shirts for the event. ID yourself as from TribalWar and I'll hook you up.

Tribes 2 and Tribes were included with the preorder box. Thus, screenshots from those games were put on the box. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Good luck! Hope you guys can indeed spread the gospel with the same enthusiasm as the big four did 2000 years ago. Then maybe Tribes can become the worlds largest religion :)
