I dont get it; what's the big hold up on games on DVDs?
4 Discs? come on now....houston 10-06-2004, 12:29 PM I dont get it; what's the big hold up on games on DVDs? Rev_Night 10-06-2004, 12:30 PM there was already a thread for this. everyone can do CDs, not everyone can do DVD. thus, you are making the same thing twice when they would only buy one thing. however, if you can order it from Europe it will be DVD {A} PR24 10-06-2004, 12:31 PM The Euro's are getting the game in DVD but all us yankees in the USA get CD's. {A} PR24 10-06-2004, 12:32 PM there was already a thread for this. everyone can do CDs, not everyone can do DVD. thus, you are making the same thing twice when they would only buy one thing. however, if you can order it from Europe it will be DVD At this point in time if someone can not afford a $20 DVD drive maybe it's time to stop gaming  houston 10-06-2004, 12:40 PM there was already a thread for this. everyone can do CDs, not everyone can do DVD. thus, you are making the same thing twice when they would only buy one thing. i dont care. 1 DVD > 4 CDs At0m|c 10-06-2004, 12:41 PM Games started coming out on CD when a lot of people still had floppy drives. It forces everybody to upgrade a little and isn't really a bad thing to do. Kerosene31 10-06-2004, 12:43 PM Are you really going to care 5 minutes after you finish installing the game? Rev_Night 10-06-2004, 12:43 PM i would prefer it on dvd drive too, but i was just telling you somewhat what the devs said. also, they said something like how the publishers in the us hate doing new stuff and i think it is more expensive. houston 10-06-2004, 12:44 PM Are you really going to care 5 minutes after you finish installing the game? yes, I have to keep track of 4 discs instead of 1 KillerONE 10-06-2004, 12:44 PM At this point in time if someone can not afford a $20 DVD drive maybe it's time to stop gaming  Great logic. Bullseye 10-06-2004, 12:44 PM It wouldn't be so bad if the progress bar wouldn't max out on disc one and then you have no idea how much longer disc's 2,3 or 4 have to go...... zVxTeflon 10-06-2004, 12:51 PM Great logic. it is great logic....its like the movie industry basically forcing people to buy DVDs. It might cost a little more at first to buy the dvd player but in the long run is worth it. either keep up or dont buy new games/movies. KillerONE 10-06-2004, 01:14 PM Most people don't know how to install a DVD player into a computer. So it becomes the price of a DVD player, plus the price of someone installing it for them. That's not the case with movies and DVD players for home. In addition, every movie that comes out has it's VHS counterpart. Noone's forced to do anything at this point (save for just a couple movie releases). Release T:V on CD AND DVD but not ONLY DVD. A few more years, yes, today DVD only? No. So, I stand by my, "Get a DVD or stop gaming" is retarded logic. Atrocious 10-06-2004, 01:18 PM Most people don't know how to install a DVD player into a computer. Banshee 10-06-2004, 01:22 PM i have a more than adequate gaming computer and dont have a DVD drive. I just didn't feel like spending money on something I didn't need. you all lose. Breadman86 10-06-2004, 01:23 PM I just got my DVD drive about a year ago, and was honestly worried that if I didn't do that, I wouldn't be able to play games today because everything would be on DVD. At this point, I have to say I'm extremely dissapointed at the lack of DVDs in the market, but I don't think a "DVD only" plan is the answer. The Sims2 did it perfectly. They had a DVD version and a CD version, both costing the exact same amount. Stop with the "CD version" and "Special Edition $20 more + a desktop wallpaper DVD edition." At this point I thought I would own at least 5 or 6 games on DVD. The fact is, UT2k4 and The Sims2 are the only two. Publishers should seriously reconsider this continuously greivous error that they just don't stop making, and they should follow the likes of The Sims2 and the recently released MystIV which was DVD Only. FantasticDamage 10-06-2004, 01:25 PM 4 CDs... boo-effin-hoo. I remember a time when games came on 32 floppy disks, and half the time at least one of those disks was unreadable/corrupt. Crybabies. Piata 10-06-2004, 01:27 PM Are you really going to care 5 minutes after you finish installing the game? Because 4 CDs are effing annoying as hell. One DVD is easier to keep track of, easier to install with and faster to install with. Plus installing a DVD-ROM isn't rocket science. I could teach my 12 year old cousin to do it. Set the DVD-ROM as slave, plug in the power and IDE, boot up and you're good to go. Its like putting lego blocks together. Phantom 10-06-2004, 01:35 PM I don't know how to install a gpu, make T:V text based. That's according to your logic. I don't know what some people have against progress. Why the hell are we still using books btw? I mean those things are big and a waste of everything. Theta 10-06-2004, 01:36 PM Most people don't know how to install a DVD player into a computer. So it becomes the price of a DVD player, plus the price of someone installing it for them. My first gateway that I bought 6 years ago came with a DVD drive. Even if someone bought a premade computer, they would have a DVD drive. It doesn't really matter as long as there are tards that will buy something without reading the system requirements. | ||
