Do you guys remember that for Tribes 1? There was this awesome map that was basically a HUGE skiing coarse. It started with this gigantic ski ramp ala Winter Olympics skiing long jump. By the time you hit the bottom you were cruises at breakneck speeds. Maybe I'll just have to make this myself. But any mappers out there should consider it for fun :).

with the way physics and skiing are handled, it'll be impossible

Because?

Because you cant ...turn. You'll hit the banking and VOOOOOOSH off it like a ski jump.

The grappler would add an interesting new element to it though...

How bout we wait for the game to release first. Then after everyone is tired of the maps that are released with the game, that someone then release a fresh map to keep the community interested.

Until then, stfu.

With the new lateral movement, it'd be possible for the light armor atleast.

I'd think so anyway.

Oh man... I had this vision of a great map. Think of it as a training map of sorts for ski/jet/grapple/jump. Imagine it being incredibly fast with loops and dips and hills and all kinds of stuff... except you'd have to use more than just ski. You'd have to grapple a bar or something here and there and then swing around a half pipe type thing then launch yourself to the next section and ski down then go into a loop... ect ect. It could be up high in the air so that if you fall, your dead and would have to start over.

Would be a great way to practice. I'm all for T:V obstical courses.

yeah xtremeski just wouldn't work, you'd lose momentum just on the start. doh :(

xtremeski was the shiznat. but i dont think it will work, seeing as how maps are limited to such a small space....

*beep*
wrong

frictionless = :D

its not truely frictionless, i'm sure if you skiied on a plane for a bit it would eventually stop.

Junglegym. Large ski-hostile map with very abrupt crevasses etc, with enough random posts and occasional crossbars scattered around that good grappling can get you going at a pretty fair clip. Hmmm.

Maps aren't limited to a small place, the ones in T:V are small by design. Larger size might be more demanding on cliets though...

1. no carving. xtremeski revolved around the fact that a slight turn in the ramp would push you in an intended direction

2. you lose momentum very quickly while moving up a slope and you drop like a rock

Either noone knows what carving is.
Everyone has their own definition
or
There's lot of speculation going on.

The terrain does push in the direction in T:V.
You do have lateral movement in T:V.
You lose "some" momentum while moving up a slope, jetting helps.
Drop like a rock?

You maybe couldn't cookie cutter Extremeski over to T:V, but I think something like it could be easily adapted.
