Stupid (fun as hell) Grappler tricks

With the improvments to the grappler, I've found some great tricks to play with it instead of just swinging around. Just fer fun (and since these threads need something other than complain fests) I figured I'd share.

The most basic stunt is that you can now use any vehicle to transport heavies! All you have to do is grab on with the ol hook line and you've suddenly got a perty damned effective way to get heavies from one place to another! With the more heavy heavies in the release version, this can be bloody handy and makes the pod usfull as something other than a flying spam-can.

Bungy grabs!! A buddy of mine and I have been working on arial flag snags by having someone grappled onto a pod and doing a fly-by of the enemy's flag stand. If you line it up right, the rider doesn't even have to disconnect his line! He just swings on through the flag and... off ya go!

The new ELF! (some of you are going to HATE this!) Try snaggin a capper when they go for the flag! If you hit 'em right you can totally foul up their run. The best I've done with this so far was when I managed to hit a light capper just as he hit his e-boost. The force of his thrust brought him up, over, and *SMACK* straght into the ground! It happend so fast that said capper didn't even know what hit him and reported a wierd "bug" in chat. When I finally stoped laughing, I told him what I had done... he couldn't believe it and spent the rest of the match trying to do the same.

You can pull of simular things in other situations too. I caught a HO trying to swim under our base in Winterlake. I snagged him and pulled him out to sea letting teammates take pickshots at him. Again, it totally blew his tactic. If you hold down ski you can grab a heavy and hold on tight. Use your chaingun at point blank to take him apart.

Now for the REALLY fun one! Having trouble with an enemy assualt ship? Grab a grappler and a burner! Latch onto that rampaging beast, swing around alot to avoid any gunners he might have, and let loose with your burner! I've managed to cook a fully manned AS this way all by my lonesome.

I'm sure there are more ways to use the grappler, so play with it! Just remeber that it will break the line if both ends are under heavy friction. If you are standing on the ground and so is your target, the line will break. If either end is in a frictionless state (skiing, in the air, or in the water) the line will hold fast!

Ha, sounds fun. I tried most of these when I first got the open beta, but none of them worked. I'll have to give them a try now.

I remember reading more threads like this.... 6 months ago

you're right about the 'fun'>'useful' factor

Yeah, yeah... thing is, they *work* now. I had thought about doing each of those a while ago, but they just wouldn't work in the beta.

ive grappled cappers as HoF. it is pretty funny to watch the "wtf teh !?!" as they cant figure out why they arent getting away.

these are all based on the premise that you're playing against noobs

actually grappling cappers that know what they are doing is easier. noobs often fool you with l33t walk up routes. the problem with walk up routes is you cant predict the ingress route. cappers haulin balls at the flag are going to be on a much more linear ingress route.

also, when going for a body block, pull out the energy blade and stick the capper with it right as he runs into you.

Saber (I donno if he posts here) was the heavy victem I was dragging around under water last night. I wouldn't call him a noob at all! He's HOing was too damned effective and I had to come up with something to counter him. Tryed several different things before grappalizing him, but none of them worked very well.

When I started latching onto his fat heavy arse, it made enough differance so he gave up HOing for the rest of the match!

Got another one... but this is seriously stupid. I take my hat off to anyone who can make effective use of it!

Dragging off the enemy's pods! With a line attached to can drag pods around since they have no contact with the ground.

As I say, I have no idea how to make this useful. :p

Only one that is useful is burner grappling against the bomber. Takes em down without any problem whatsoever. Hilarity ensues

Grappling cappers... mmm k, ok I prefer disking them

Drag it off the enemy pad, then steal it?

the only person that should even consider grappling a capper in a competative scenario would be the HoF. and then only at the last second after he chained at long range, burnered at mid range, chained some more, then grapple, then switch the energy blade :D

What makes it handy to grapple a capper is that a single disk ain't gonna stop them. Infact if your timing is just a little off, you'll give 'em a kick in the arse that can help them get outta there a lot faster.

If you can grapple them, they're basicly fooked.

and if you miss, they've taken no damage and lost no speed...
