BitRaiser 09-30-2004, 10:45 PM and if you miss, they've taken no damage and lost no speed...
Same goes for any weapon, does it not?
Well, depending on how much you miss by with splash damage...
I've found it remarkably easy to hit with the grappler, tho. Definatly a matter of taste and why the heading of this thread includes to word "Stupid". ;)
Smooth P 10-01-2004, 04:18 AM Coming up with fun ways to use the grappling hook is childs play... discovering 'fun' ways to use the rocket pod is where true genius lies.

Speed Pack + Rocket POD, you can down a sensor REAL fast.
BitRaiser 10-01-2004, 05:02 AM I was having some fun doing indirect fire with the RP. Low player count and the enemy team seemed to be mostly noobs, so rater than just do mad caps, HOing, or otherwise hand their arse to 'em, I desided to have fun with other things...
Hiding behing a hill, firing the RP staight up, then arching the shots down on their defenses was one of those things. Practicing my rover skiing was another. ;) That's so much fun!
Oh, try useing the Rocket pod when you're hanging off a fighter pod!! Heehee. And people think they spam bad NOW!
Master_01 10-01-2004, 11:13 AM remember that when you grapple someone its the same thing as them grappling on to you but just that they have their weapon out already.
wow the idiocy in this thread fukn hurts.
[hAuS] C R A B 10-01-2004, 11:26 AM Not very useful ... but on Winterlake you can airlift a HO and drop him down one of the side hills. Send the HO in first then driver jumps out and has a good start for a cap run, which *should* have a clear flag. HO is down one weapon though. :(
I guess you could find a good spot on Isle as well.

Psyman911 10-01-2004, 11:30 AM just an idea: if you grapple on to a rover and let it tow you while you ski, can you do kind of a sling-shot effect if you let go at the right time?
bladewalker 10-01-2004, 11:34 AM As HoF you can grapple yourself to the flag stand to keep from getting disced/naded out of the way.
ITS FASTER JUST TO HAVE FUKING ROUTE THAT TO DO THAT STUPID shazbotE
Psyman911 10-01-2004, 11:49 AM we are talking about stupid isht thats fun and sometimes effective, not actually hard core playing.
Tahnit 10-01-2004, 11:58 AM Great strat with the grappler is have someone pilot a pod..grapple the pod and have him move in a circle to "slingshot" you to incredible speeds and then let go at the right time.

The title is Stupid tricks. Nobody is talking about this competition wise. :)
That said, no route could be faster than a Rover dragging a HO over the crest of a hill while grappled. The Rover goes over the hill and slingshots the HO straight across the map. I don't think anyone is capable of flying straight because you go soo fast. Base to base on any map is easy that way.

If this actually works now (I used it before but usually just got blasted far enough away to where it didn't matter) then that could be the very reason we don't see destroyable hooks.
bladewalker 10-01-2004, 01:49 PM Grapple straight down on it and reel yourself all the way in... worked for me on and off... but MoF is more fun with speed pack/buckler (for bouncing people).

This has worked in beta05 and in the demo. The only difference is that in the demo, the flag stand radius is slightly larger, so your grapple point is a little further away from the flag than in beta05.
The only thing that sucks is that spam owns you when you're anchored down to the flag stand.

Managed a cap this way last night!
Rover skied over to the enemy base, then as I was getting close to the flag, detatched, grabbed, spun around and reattached! Then tore the hell outta there! Muchly fun!! Heehee... took 3 people to get the job done (including the rover gunner), but it was done in style!
Psyman911 10-01-2004, 06:24 PM k, all these ideas i have to try now...
