FantasticDamage 09-28-2004, 02:57 PM That's similar to what the UE speedhack protection does, the problem being that T:V allows for some very quick speeds. So in order for the server to determine whether or not you are infact supposed to be moving as fast as your client says you are, it would have to keep track of a)if you disc jumped, b)how you've been skiing acros the terrain, c)if you were shot in the air, d)you're entire acceleration pattern, etc...
So it's not just how fast you're moving at any given point that counts in a Tribes game, it's what you did to gain that speed. That's why speedhack protection isn't as simple as it seems.
FantasticDamage 09-28-2004, 03:02 PM That's the problem right there. Clients shouldn't be allowed to calculate their own positions/speeds.
Yah, you're right, they shouldn't. But most of us don't have the luxury of running on dedicated OC3 connections with the kind of speed needed to keep the game running smooth while the server recieves each and every requested keystroke, determines whether it's legit or not, then sends a confirmation back to you that it is indeed valid.
Amadeus 09-28-2004, 03:13 PM You wouldn't need confirmations because all calculations would be guaranteed 100% valid (as they are made by the server based on its own data). Because of that, clientside prediction for your own movement would be 100% accurate too (given that your client runs the game at the same speed as the server does).

Two experts debate over superficial logic, gotta love it.
Apotheosis 09-28-2004, 03:52 PM I know that I warp a lot sometimes, but it's due to my horrible connection rather than any hack I have. Are you certain that the warpers you observed were truly moving faster than they were supposed to?
ParoxysM 09-28-2004, 04:04 PM My tick > your tick
JackBlack 09-28-2004, 04:05 PM So I just got done playing on a pub and a guy from myg0t (sp?) was running a speed hack and very proud of it. He'd get from one end of the cavern map to teh other in about 2 seconds, spam mortars into the base, steal the flag, and get back in another 2 seconds.
Makes for a great, fun, sign-me-up here's my $50 game. On second thought, I'll just keep playin' Burnout3.

Yes. I was playing GenD on the same server as ReCurve, and I kept killing the same HVY every 15 seconds or so. Very annoying, he kept coming faster than I could fix/replace turrets and repair systems.
He wasn't shelling faster than normal tho, which doesn't seem right considering.
Amadeus 09-28-2004, 04:12 PM Maybe he had a good route?
Anyway, some vids would be convincing.
Timmain 09-28-2004, 04:14 PM Vid would be nice, but I didn't realize what was going on until I stuck my head out of the genDoor on Cavern to see lights moving almost faster than my system could track them.
And I don't know how to record yet.

Shut up you ass. Nobody likes you.
Adept 09-28-2004, 04:20 PM Shut up you ass. Nobody likes you.
he has a point ;p

Ummmm... well, I've been playing the demo long enough to know the difference between someone taking a good route and someone who pops 400ft a second from point to point. Pop... pop... mortars... pop... flag... pop... cap... repeat.
I think it was on the CKB server, but am not sure. The dude had myg0t or whatever in his name, and kept telling people to go to www.myg0t.com after patting himself on the back for his great hack. I don't really have time to figure out the video thing, so you'll have to check it out yourself.

just hot esc
and there is a record tab on the right
WaTTz! 09-28-2004, 04:25 PM Speed hacks are as old as I can remember.
Some of the eariliest ones I can remeber were used in AC1 (Asheron's Call 1).
It's nothing more than a simple third party program that uses Hotkeys to adjust your system clock from within a game.
This myg0t is known for cheating, I'm not going to explain any more than that (EDIT: Appearently the guy above me didn't have a problem doing so).
I suppose the only saving grace of T:V is that if someone is cheating, it will be obvious. It's not like an wall hack is going to help you much. Aimbots really don't work either as EVERY gun, including the sniper rifle, requires leading on the target and varies a LOT with your speed AND the targets speed. And as for things like radar hacks etc, so what. At best they will give you an advantage over other people when your sensor is down, or there is no sensor at all (but cavern is jerkly anyway).
Timmain 09-28-2004, 04:29 PM Even if I did record someone reaching supersonic speeds, what good would it do? THe game's gone gold, has it not? I'm sure they're producing boxes and stuffing them as fast as they can, at this point...
Amadeus 09-28-2004, 04:30 PM There will be patches (at least one).
Timmain 09-28-2004, 04:33 PM A patch? Oh heavens no, why would any game need a patch?
Sry, I'm just jealous. I wanna go fast too.
Bridude 09-28-2004, 04:36 PM The guy we had on our server seemed to have a constant speed pack. Weapons shooting fast, jumping all over the place, fast walking speeds.
FantasticDamage 09-28-2004, 04:43 PM I want to apologize to all counter-strike players for myg0t being the asses we are. Someone took a lot of offense to what we do and has been running illegal Denial of Service attacks against myg0t sites/servers as well as the businesses that provide these services for us. These attacks by this individual has cost these businesses a lot of money in damages. This is also the reason we had the recent down time. In the interest of helping these businesses that have suffered from these attacks, we have agreed to post this apology and info at the request of the individual responsible for the attacks. So again, we apologize to all counter-strike players.
Ahahahahah, no wonder they moved on to T:V.
