Dude, don't argue with Marantz. He knows his shazbot.

And don't buy a piece of shazbot creative sound card either. For gaming get a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz which performs slightly better than creative's cards, is cheaper and doesn't have any stability issues. For high end sound editing or listening to music get M-Audio cards.

WaTTz, I also have the Sennheiser HD650, but no headroom module or proper amp (I know I know, waster of good headphones :) ).
While I use the headphones at least 10 hrs. a day, I still prefer to play games in my 7.1 setup, which I got just 2 months ago :)

Speaking of sound I miss Aureal. Those guys were awesome.

My ancient vortex still resides in my comp

wow i'm impressed. two HD650 owners and more TW audiophiles :D :D

i'll eventually get a pair of them when i get a job again, but for now my 580s + Creek OBH-11SE will suffice. and yeah, people who rock out their subs are jerks, but there's nothing wrong with crossing over your speakers at like 40hz to leave the lower portions for a dedicated sub. i doubt many people here do anything like that though.

i'm a total believer in two channel sound: i personally run my Vienna Acoustics Mozarts full-range (XLR inputs on my Bryston 4B-SST directly from my Classe 2-ch preamp) and can get them flat to about 24hz in my room with the current setup (they are "rated" to 33hz, but as anyone with experience with audio knows, it totally varies with your environment + placement). i do however own a Martin Logan Grotto sub that i've run the unbalanced inputs through from the RCA output on my preamp to my amp for when i listen to pipe organ music or watch movies with heavy bass passages. having full-range speakers is great for music, but you need a dedicated sub for anything with substantial bass below 30hz (like pipe organ music & movies).

and yeah, like i said in another post, having a good pair of headphones matched with a good stereo source, you can get more realistic surround effects than most surround DSP modes can offer!

buy the chaintech card before you buy the POS santa cruz. i have a santa ruz, it sits in a box in my closet. very unimpressed with that card.

The same goes for the HRTFs and other aspected of EAX support, too.

Question for everyone running 4+ channel sound... where do you put the rear speakers? In my home I'd have to hang them from the ceiling because there is nothing behind my computer desk...

really? hmm i use the optical out to my receiver. there are other cards based of the same sound chip though that kicks the crap out of the santa cruz.

Virtus, I moved my computer desk into a corner and put them on the wall :D But I know it's hard to find room for all those speakers :(
