What about the BETA? Is it still going to be closed on Wednesday?

Here's the bug we found: if you install the MP demo, then install the full game, then un-install the MP demo (which makes sense to do), the uninstaller for the demo whipes out your CD key information for the full game. Big problem.

So we look really stupid right now.No, you don't look stupid.

We had the same problem when we upgraded to a new version
of Installshield for our applications. It was not our fault either. But,
we too found it in time. Fixing it is a different matter because it's
in their code. :mecry:

If the beta will still be operational on Wednesday, that probably means we wont get the demo till Thursday. I realy hope it's released tommarow because I don't want just 2 or 3 days to check out the changes.

Anyone find the demo today yet?

I don't think I understand why some bug like this can't be fixed real quick so that the demo is released later today? There must be something more to this story.

'Regression Testing' is the process in which you test all subsystems related to a change or fix, to see if you possibly broke it else where.

I don't know why they can't just put in something, whether it be in the readme or in the demo itself, to tell players how to successfully uninstall with no issues.

You think most people actually read through all of that... and then remember to follow it exactly?

TheGrudge

No... most people don't. I had an idea to creat a page linked from www.tribesvengeance.com or www.tribalwar.com. This page would have a message that you have to read in order to download the file.. that says to make sure to deleat it before installing the full game. Then give cd-keys to those who download. That way you can't just download the file then hand it out to your friends because they will need cd-keys... therefore they will have to read the message. Only have the file downloadable off of one of the 2 pages above. Could that work?

It's not exactly a harrowing process that only geniuses can follow. If most people don't follow that type of stuff, why the effort on the close game screen, with the ads and stuff?

"Uninstall the demo first, before installing the retail game."

who are you? and...if they cant do that without reading it(they are "gamers", they should know the procedure) then they are idiots. uninstall first..then install.

something tells me it would be a good idea to uninstall the beta before installing retail as well.

People get excited when they get home with their new game. Off goes the brain and silly things (like not uninstalling the Demo) happen.

Also, I know it's more likely that I'll be running both the Demo and the full game here for awhile after I purchase. I'll have buddies (and my girlfriend) that have the demo and not the full version that I'll want to be able to play with... until I can get 'em to pick up copies for themselves.

People can't add cd-key info after install if they have to?

I just can't believe that this is that big a deal.
