Excuse the rough render. I kinda threw this together in a hurry.
For referance sake, this is a farily small vehicle... the pilot has to laydown sled style.

Just on of many extra content bits I'm working on ATM.

and what mod might this be for?

I don't like the shape of it. It's rather clunky. I've fallen in love with the Shrike model, it was simple and utilitarian. Perfect for ramming things.

EDIT: I also looked at how it folds up and it doesn't look so slick, I'd suggest getting rid of those clunky looking wings altogether.

T:V is clunky in a stylish way. This is a lego sort of clunky. It might look nicer textured, or with a gray-ish (less colourful) render.

Yeah I'm not too crazy about the pod. That thing by definition is sleek

The wings seem to have too much curve, other than that, it's kinda cool.

I'm kinda tired of the shrike.

Workin on that. Wanna make it actually look nice too!

Heehhe, interesting to see reactions on really early stuff. I prolly shouldn't have even posted that. It's none to perty compaired to where I want to take it. But, meh, I had the shot done to show some details to a buddy and figured, what the hey! It's amusing to see people react to things.

There's actually alot of thought behind why that thing looks the way it does.

I'll fess up and say that an episode of SG-1 that happened to be on sorta put the basic idea in my head. I had always thought Tribes' and Stargate's imagery went together well.

I've also been reading up on the back fiction behind Tribes at http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/ and started thinking about how I would use that sorta stuff to make things that kill people. By the back story's "rules" You've got anti-gravity being cheap as all hell, very strong alloys, and huge amounts of power. That gives alot of degrees of flexibility!!

Something that's bugged me about Tribes games for a long time, however, is the way that aero-dynamics and things like control surfaces are a lost art.
I wanna make a little fighter that goes really fast. How would I want to control it? Big wings!! Airflow still exists, yeah? I never liked how any aircraft in any Tribes game had wings that looked like they would do something.
Anyway, big wings is something I wanted... but there's some problems with that. First off there's collisions to worry about. How fun would it be to fly this thing if your constantly getting your wings hooked up on things?
Hmmm... big, but not sticking out too much would be better.
Forward swept looked best, so that's what I went with.
The next thing is that even tho I had cut down on the overall wingspread, I would still preffer to have it fix inside a vehicle bay about the same size as the pod. Erk. Wasn't gonna happen. Then I started thinking about the way they fold up planes on aircraft carriers. Really interesting stuff... looked promising. After some monkeying around, I did the cuts to the wings and added linkage to make it believeable.

So this is basicly what came out of me doing alot of futzing around and "what if" thinking.

(Oh, If anyone wants to know more about the mod, they can PM me. We're still laying alot of stuff down, but I'm not into public debate on the design.)

Nevermind them raiser, do what you want and just work at it. It's looking pretty slick, keep up the good work.

Rofl, I also thought of both of those comparisons while looking at the first post :p I think the Death Glider comparison is closer thought, I don't recal many Kiltrathi ships quite as similar---they tend to have more complex wing shapes, or stubbier noses, or longer noses with smaller wings...

But WC ships (http://www.wcnews.com/ships/) are definitely a nice place to start for ideas--the franchise has had to struggle to make different visual designs that aren't amazingly odd looking for a while.

I think the basic body and rear thruster design sounds pretty good, it's just those sweeping wings that look out of place.

Have you considered co-opting some of the rotary-fan-like design from the Assault Ship? Something that says "Here's how I hover."
