Smooth P 09-28-2004, 04:13 AM Pretty nice. I'd chuck the 'folding' of the wings and make them a bit smaller though.
P.S. I can't believe people are actally bringing up the Shrike as a cooler model than that. The Shrike was cool back in the 70's with Battlestar Galactica... this is 2004, folks.
P.P.S. Stargate (the T.V. show) sucks. Ok, yeah, whats her blond with the big blue eyes who's supposedly all smart buy usually acts like an idiot is quite hot when she's made up right. But for god's sake, that show is idiotic! All the characters act like they're retarded and from the drama queen school of junior high level personal interaction. I can't believe they cancelled farscape for that crap.

Looks cool, but I definately don't want any more vehicles.
RompeR 09-28-2004, 04:32 AM mm.... give the vehicle a texture and it might not look like a toy you buy at toys R us..
Damrod 09-28-2004, 04:58 AM It kinda looks a lot like a Kilrathi fighter:

I've still got a lot of tinkering to do.
I do really like the idea of actual airfoils on this thing, so I want to keep 'em a practical size.
We'll see what falls out.

Yeah... but did you see the remake?

I swear, it just happened to be on!! I was watchin the tube when a model idea struck me. I got up to toy around fer a bit... that turned into awhile. By then what I had been watching had turned into SG1. Bt... like... some cool things were happening on the screen. I guess they got funding or something.
Out flys this hybrid alien/human thing (flown by Mcgyver himself!) that lookd like... well, a Kilrathi fighter.
I started thinking about why this is such a popular design and playing with wing shapes... and I think I like what's fallen out.

And the secret word today is: Airfoil
Arcanox 09-28-2004, 06:57 AM Nice BitRaiser.. can't wait to see it ingame down the road...
and for comparision to the earlier Shrike pictures :)
Neutral Skin which detracts a bit -
Damn those are nice. I wish Irrational just took this and scraped that crappy pod thingie.
Silken 09-28-2004, 10:09 AM P.S. I can't believe people are actally bringing up the Shrike as a cooler model than that. The Shrike was cool back in the 70's with Battlestar Galactica... this is 2004, folks.
Sorry, no. Shrike model > you
FantasticDamage 09-28-2004, 11:56 AM Looks too Star Trek.
Looks like a Go'aould (spelling?) death glider from stargate :P
BitRaiser 09-28-2004, 12:20 PM People don't read much before they post, do they? :p
I admitted that some insperation came from them deathglider thingys!
I'm suprised no-one has menioned TIE-Interceptors or Sauron from Captain Power (or the TX-7 for that matter). Those have elements I drew on from too. ;)
PxR|GrimJack 09-28-2004, 03:01 PM personally.....lose the outer sections of the wings (the sickle part), keep the inner snubbie wings and make them non-folding
the Shrike was Battlestar Galactica to the hilt.....and I played T2 from opening day and thought that....NOT that I didnt like it, but thats what it reminds me of
the pod needs work yeah, but the killer hampster ball can be deadly in the hands of someone that takes more time learning to USE it and less time crying "its not a Shrike"
Stargate doesn't take itself too seriously. I like that.
If you don't believe me, go watch 5x12 "Wormhole X-treme". Best freaking self parody ever.
Sam: "Anubis must have used a mind probe on Jonas. Thats how he found out about the Naquadria."
Jack: "Well, if he does, he knows the stuff only works half the time."
Sam: 'But just because we haven't been able to establish a stable power output doesn't mean he won't, and if he does..."
Jack: "Dun dun dunnnn!"
BitRaiser 09-28-2004, 03:22 PM The folding wings are there for technical reasons. I agree that it doesn't look great when it's folded, but you'll actually never see them folded except when it's first deployed from a vehicle bay. Prowlers look perty silly when they are all folded up for transport too.
I'll prolly be sticking with the larger wing surface since it's a personal annoyance of mine that there aren't any real wings on anything to date. Wings serve a purpose and I'm one of those types that likes to do things from a psudo-engineering take as well as athstetics.
Something that you can't really read from those shots is the scale. This thing is about half the size of a Shrike, give or take. The pilot's compartment is that ressesed section behind the windscreen and is only big enough for the pilot to lay down with his head and shoulders protected.
PxR|GrimJack 09-28-2004, 03:26 PM hmmm.....so coming out of the bay its no bigger than the hampster ball is now?
more or less?
BitRaiser 09-28-2004, 03:29 PM bingo.
PxR|GrimJack 09-28-2004, 03:33 PM ok.....you've got my interest.....the folding sections was simply astetics on my part as well
and it looks a lot like the Necron ships from Battlefleet Gothic as well.....
BitRaiser 09-28-2004, 03:37 PM And don't forget the new and improved Cylon ships! (you have seen the Battlestar Galactica remake, yeah?)
Silken 09-29-2004, 08:24 AM personally.....lose the outer sections of the wings (the sickle part), keep the inner snubbie wings and make them non-folding

I don't think anyone's having trouble USING the hamster ball spam weapon of doom, but the issue is that it's not a very fun toy.
It's just pure missile spam, it's slow and floaty, it irritates people and generally leaves a poor impression.
The only time it's remotely fun is if you're bouncing across the terrain in it with your ski button depressed. The shrike was just a very fun vehicle to fly - fast, sleek, and took a lot more skill to handle well.
Sadly it seems there's not much place for it in a game like T:V. Vehicles altogether just suck in this game.
