Voidsinger 09-27-2004, 09:36 PM The demo pretty much sets everything in stone. Apart from a few minor tweaks, I think it is safe to assume that the game we'll be playing tomorrow will be what we'll be buying come early October.
For me, so far, the game has been okay, but it hasn't pushed me to play countless hours like the others. It all feels very superficial, very "disconnected". Is it the bland maps? The physics? The "if it ain't broke, we'll break it anyways" mentality of some features (inventory, chat)? No idea.
The game is well-made, well-crafted. Hats off to Irrational, but will that be enough? A beautiful game, strong, robust... but no soul. There's just too many "small things" that irk me right now. Will the demo change that? What adjustments will we see? Physics? Movement? Interface? Netcode?
For me, tomorrow's version will determine if I try to play competitively, or if I go back to the land of WoW/Guildwars.
How about you?
Arcanox 09-27-2004, 09:38 PM Once the classic maps come out things will pick up.
Granted the base game is pretty good, mods is where it's going to shine through. Things like the SJ pack and tossable mines need to have a good comeback and a Tribes Classic mod.
Big Monkey 09-27-2004, 09:40 PM The only thing that really makes it annoying for me to have to play is the disconnects, the speed bug crap, spawning at rover bugs, tourney bugs...
well pretty much all the bugs...if they fixed those, then I'm stayin for a year or two(hopefully.)
Hurricane Harold 09-27-2004, 09:41 PM I don't have that many things in the beta right now that bother me. Inventory and chat seem fine now that I've gotten used to them, and just as fast. The bugs like server disconnects and the messed up speed-hack code are obnoxious, but those will hopefully be fixed. Skiing and skiing control seem pretty fine to me, just takes a bit to learn.
Netcode is only o.k., and is that which bothers me the most, but experimental told us that they revamped it so we'll see in the demo.
With extra maps (the rest of the official, and community ones), the single player, and eventually mods (like SS:2845), I'm pretty certain that this will be a wise purchase for myself.
WaTTz! 09-27-2004, 09:44 PM I am holding out for some turtling and base rape tweaks.
poisonspider 09-27-2004, 09:44 PM once the game is out. i want to take like all the maps. (even though "i" dont know how) and just stretch them out as far apart as possible

You've only seen the beta maps. There are much, much larger maps in the final release.
I'd be very careful making statements about the complete game based on the Beta. You wouldn't do it looking at the code, so why do it looking at the limited content?
I hope you'll all be pleasantly surprised by the large scale of some of the maps.
Hopefully the maps live up to those two muchs. Not that I would die if they didn't.

Man you cry about that shazbot a lot. It was in T1 and T2 and it will be in T:V get over it already.
^Jadakiss 09-27-2004, 09:48 PM If they didn't fix the sniper rifle I'm not buying it.

I was crying? Do you have a camera planted in my home?

:ugh: i wouldnt mind a few of the oldies, but come on lets make some new maps.
mc-fine 09-27-2004, 09:53 PM A demo should tell you if you want to buy or not.
Now if only those who don't like would stfu after tomorrow... what a wonderful world that would be.
Starwind 09-27-2004, 10:05 PM and you're surprised?

Same here. I find that if alot of these little "bugs" that have been bitting my toes are still there, I probly wont be playing this game a whole lot.

They need to make every armor useful and needed in comp play. Teams with just all lights seem to dominate and Heavy and even Med armor are not needed.

Heavies still dominate. I have been in many servers where I couldn't get any caps let alone suited up because my base was constantly down.
I am going to be playing T:V after demo, i am excited to see what they have fixed and improved.
NAT Mav 09-27-2004, 10:59 PM I'll end up buying it, but not on release day.
#1 I'm broke
#2 I'm tired of rushing to the store to buy a game on release day only to find out I can't play it when I get it home.
Silverspirit 09-27-2004, 11:03 PM I'm buying it even if I hate the demo... can't wait to start scripting.
