Um, the T1 command screen served no point. Waypoint scripts removed the need for it. All it was ever used for was quick peaks to see if someone was in radar range on the other side of a hill.

You sir, are very wrong.

The command screen was the TF's best friend.

holy crap fool, what game did you play!

this was a centerpiece towards a serious game. the eerie "i know where you ares", the exceedingly well-timed grabs, perfectly timed offensive strikes, the lightspeed pickups, the pub and match "team-health" indicator?

i have no idea how you played t1 if you say the command screen served no purpose.

happy flag

rofl.

he's kidding.

seriously though, i really am curious. granted you can do a lot by just feel, but for match, i would use the command screen at least 2-3 times per spawn.

What I miss from the command screen is being able to waypoint myself to a buddy and work as a fire team.

Better yet was having a bunch of buddies on designating one as the "squad leader" and giving all his mates waypoints to him. Then the leader gets a WP to his squads objective.

I very fondly recall a scrim in T1. I was the "commander", the map was Canyon Crusade. We had 3 squads set up, 2 O, 1 D. The enemy was really putting up good resistance until I enginered a 2 pronged flanking manouver by sending the 2 O squads to either side of their base and calling for the attack on my signel.

The ensuing carnage and base ownage was a beautiful thing to behold... I'm only sorry I've lost the video. :(

I understand that, but much of it was replaced by scripts and voice communication.

Alot of the scripts basicly = cheats. The original Dev team even said as much, but the way the engine is built, there wasn't much they could do about it.

I've started using voice more (side note, what's the best voice app going?) but I still find I'm missing the hell outta a quick referance to my buddies. Alot of our voice traffic is along the lines of:
"HELP!!!"
"Ok, I'm comming, where are you??"
"I'm by the base!"
"WHICH base??"
"The one with the flag!"
"Ours or theirs????"
"Theirs!"
"Alright, coming. Almost there"
"Never mind... I'm dead."
"Great... so NOW where are you?"
"At the base".

ARGH!!!!

There was nothing cheatlike of the flagcarrier being waypointed automatically. Just saved you the 2 seconds of opening the CC and clicking on them. Enemy waypoints vanished if they went out of your radar. Voice is superior if people are clear.

If it did something for you that someone had to do manually if they didn't have the script, I would call it a cheat. Anything that isn't in the out of the box package gives you an edge over someone who doesn't is, in essanse, a cheat.

HOWEVER.
That particular bit o script isn't too major and prolly should have been added as part of the interface.

That's the sorta thing that would expand on the Command screen's functions... not a reason to get rid of it!

You used to have to buy favorites by hand too until someone wrote a script that shortcutted it.

I know, I know... and the justifications for using this or that script run long and shallow. It's off topic tho, and not worth debating here.

'sides, you didn't tell me what the best voice com app is yet!
