Most of the people who claim T:V is nothing more than a UT2K4 mod are jaded Tribes vets who have no tweak reflexes, not the general PC FPS gaming public.

Nobody ever called Theif Deadly Shadows, Shadow Ops Red Mercury, Splinter Cell 1 & 2, Lineage II, Rainbow Six 3, Dead Man's Hand, Dues Ex 2, XIII, Desert Thunder, Magic Battlegrounds, America's Army, Sephiroth 3, Postal 2, Devastation, or Raven Shield, UT2K4 MODs, even though they are all built on the UE2 engine.

The only reason anyone would call T:V a UT2K4 mod is cause they're dissapointed that Irrational chose to go with the UE2 instead of the more traditional Torque engine, because other than that there's no real basis for this arguement. This arguement popped up within the Tribes community by conservative Tribes players. As an outsider (I've played tons of T2 and a bit of T1, but I've stuck to myself and my clans), I was happy as hell when I heard that Irrational had the rationale to go with the UE2 engine, as was just about everyone in my clan and the boards I frequent. It's a solid, flexible engine, and if you look at all the games that have come out of it, you would see that it's capable of much more than just the UT series.

My point being is that Tribes, though an extremely skillfull game, relies more on good judgement and prediction as opposed to twitch reflexes. UE2 is synonymous with twitch (for some dumb reason, most of the games it's used for are very cerebral), so it makes sense that Tribes vets would be a little hesitant to accept it. While T:V does have alot of twitch to it (which I love personally), it still maintains many of the aspects that make Tribes such a great series.

Now I don't mean to talk smack about Tribes Vets, but it's quite obvious that T:V and UT2K4 are completely different games. If you're using the fact that you don't like UT2K4 to juxtapose them, all you're doing is spiting T:V cause it's based on the same engine. Us outsiders don't really care what engine it's based on as long as it's fun.
