How much bandwidth would a popular 32person server chew through monthly?
Server bandwidthSaintDude 09-27-2004, 07:25 PM How much bandwidth would a popular 32person server chew through monthly? KnightMare 09-27-2004, 07:30 PM  32 person server in TV? SaintDude 09-27-2004, 07:43 PM Yes jackass 32 person. I want to know what a server will cost at that level so I can open it up for pub play. If it can handle 32 players it'll be fine for 20 players plus observers come competition time. God for a member you're retarded above and beyond the call of duty. PlaZmaSnake 09-27-2004, 07:44 PM I heard some good places that will host a very good 32 person server around atleast 150 a month. But this is on the beta and it might be cheaper depending on the quality of the server. KnightMare 09-27-2004, 07:45 PM and for a vet4 you're pretty dense. SaintDude 09-27-2004, 07:56 PM Care to explain sir or do you generally not have any real reason for talking out of your ass? KnightMare 09-27-2004, 08:06 PM because with beta there arent any servers able to run with 32 people. So unless you want people just guessing, nobody knows for sure. PlaZmaSnake 09-27-2004, 08:06 PM Care to explain sir or do you generally not have any real reason for talking out of your ass? He doesn't. GoD-Chry 09-27-2004, 08:14 PM Aim for 24 players with the current state of the game. It was, afterall, designed for 8v8. If you're looking to host a server through a hosting company, you need about 250Gb/ month throughput for a public server thats full 16 hours a day. You'd probably want to get at least 1000Gb/month though, that way you'll have room to run over and they won't hit you with a large bill. Also, make sure you get a good machine thats dedicated and only you are on it. [At least a P2.8, 512ram. I'd recommend a dual xeon with 1Gb though so you can run a server on each processor] Don't worry about the per second rate bandwidth, because it doesn't matter to any real NOC's. posr 09-28-2004, 12:39 AM 32 player server going 24/7, roughly full, u can prol expect 400-600 GB monthly. Thats the best I could give. This may be a little off, but I would get at least a 1000 GB monthly BW connection. Else those overages can be PRICEY. U think the cell phone companies screw ya, u havent seen the internet providers go after ya. Anywhere from .25c to 1.00 $ per gig over. heres the math. lets say, 5 KB a sec per player. 24 players at 16 hours 7 megs a minute and times that by 16 hours, u get 6.7 or so gigs a day. so that would be about 225 gigs , this math is really rounded :) but plug the numbers in yourself. Not sure about the packet size per player, but i figure 5KB should be about right, tho its prol a little low. I would double that, and add at least 100 gigs for the downloading of maps and crap. That would put ya at about 600 gigs a month for BW usage. Equaknox 09-28-2004, 12:42 AM Talk to BigMonkey he hosts ones. BitRaiser 09-28-2004, 12:48 AM How much bandwidth would a popular 32person server chew through monthly? Not sure, but if yer looking to host a server and happen to be in a place where Shaw has cable ISP, you can go for their budget business line for about $50 a month. HUGE bandwidth! If you chew through that, start charging a damned membership fee! Decepti|<on 09-28-2004, 01:25 AM because with beta there arent any servers able to run with 32 people. So unless you want people just guessing, nobody knows for sure. i think you're f.ucking retarded you take how much bandwidth a 16 player server uses and double it, now shut up and stop posting Phalanx.old 09-28-2004, 03:01 AM Good thing about Tribes 1 was it was low resources and low on bandwidth. It meant there were many servers, and you could easily have 2-3 people playing on a 56k connection. I am told that T:V as a server can't eat through CPU time, so you will want to make sure the box is up to it. Also a 32 person one is more than getting a 16 person one and doubling it. This is because every client is reciving extra data for another 16 charicter objects and their related objects. This can sometimes be a small amount, and other times a very large amount. SaintDude 09-28-2004, 03:50 AM because with beta there arent any servers able to run with 32 people. So unless you want people just guessing, nobody knows for sure. BigMonkey's server currently runs 32 and is filled most of the time. GG dummy. KnightMare 09-28-2004, 03:52 AM "heh im sniping the podders" SaintDude 09-28-2004, 04:01 AM hahaha you were on 5150 eh? Was bored. Played HO for a few hours tonight. Wanted to piss off some vehicle whores. Seemed to have worked. :) Big Monkey 09-28-2004, 04:17 AM Talk to BigMonkey he hosts ones. he posted this after he asked me cuz I told him an estimate since I dont keep such close track of it.... i told him it would use less than 500GB and he wanted more finite numbers p.s. knightmare is a tard KnightMare 09-28-2004, 04:21 AM  lag fest doesnt "runs" Pachacutec 09-28-2004, 07:14 AM we priced it at 100-120 per month, aka cost-prohibitive :P | ||
