LOS ANGELES, CA (September 27, 2004) – Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games) announced today that the company has forged a technology, marketing, and promotional relationship with ATI Technologies, the leading graphics card supplier, in support of the PC videogame Tribes:Vengeance, due to be released in the United States on October 5th.

The two companies will collaborate in efforts to showcase Tribes:Vengeance through advertising campaigns, special events, and online evangelism.

More information about Tribes:Vengeance can be found on the game’s official website at http://www.tribesvengeance.com/.

“Tribes: Vengeance takes full advantage of the latest and greatest graphics cards from ATI so it makes perfect sense to work closely with them,” said Michael Pole, Executive Vice-President, Worldwide Studios, VU Games. “This holiday it’ll be hard to beat the combination of Tribes’ Vengeance Engine and ATI’s graphics technology.”

“ATI has been working closely with VU Games to enable the most intensive graphics experience imaginable in Tribes:Vengeance,” said Andy Thompson, Director of Advanced Technology, ATI. “Tribes:Vengeance will bring high-definition gaming to life for end-users like never before.”

How does this effect us?? IMO it doesn't. Just ATI's way of getting in with VU for some advertising.

I guess the benchmarks will tell all soon enough.

Man that poor eff has a last name "Pole"

This is really nothing new imo. ATI wanted this bad because nVidia got UT2K3 and 2K4. So you play T:V on almost the same engine and ATI says "we are the big guys now".

Well, T:V might be advertised, and some people will actually go out and buy a game they see in a commercial if it's done by the company they're a fanboy of.

But still, VUG and ATI have been like Romeo and Juliet for a while now.

maybe it means better driver optimizations for T:V

It's probably closer to: "We will pay you to allow us to splash a ATI logo in your game" and nothing more. Just like UT games did.

I remember asking the question about 4-5 months ago if they were getting buddy/buddy with any of the gfx card companies and the answer was "no"

I guess the benchmarks will tell all soon enough.Tribes runs better on an ATI 9x00 card than a 5x00 card, and (just very slightly, 2% to 5% range) better on a 6800 card than an x800 card. It comes down to hardware and drivers, we didn't do anything particularly special for any video card.

The "NFN" part is the announcment that they are going to openly promote and market one another through this game. That much I deduce from what is written, did only take place today.

i seriously doubt there were any special marketing/coding to have that happen.

Sucks not seeing jack about T:V anyplace though. PR/marketing is really doing a shazbotty job at this. Gamespot does not have it listed in the top ten, EB and the rest of the store still have the release date as the 12th.

I mean shazbot man at least call the corp headquarters of these places and tell them to get the release date right. I think they make Menzo clean the VU building and he gets to do PR in his spare time

Only with the newest cards. With the 9800 / 5900 series of cards, the nividia is slow motion compared to the ATI cards. As bad as 30% the speed of ATI depending on the driver and hardware combo at the same graphic settings. Nvidia really blew it with that card, giving away about 30% of the market. It's really dreadful hardware. Luckily for all of us they have pulled out a good card for the 6800 series. The x800 is really just as good, perhaps slightly slower in some circumstances, slightly faster in others. Like I said, just a few percentage points behind (in Tribes) over all.
