Single Player: Wave Gaming?

I downloaded the single player demo (which took a long, long time for me... 10 days to get 43%, until I went over to someone else's house and got it in 20 minutes) and beat the thing in five minutes. I'd like to say I didn't waste my time, but I can't.

Anyway, I noticed that the combat in this single mission was completely wave-oriented, basically hurling dozens of inept enemies at me at once.

I know it's been said that these AI are retarded in comparison to the "real ones" I get in the box (I'm sure the AI are soooo deadly) but is the gameplay going to stagnate into wave combat against hoards of witless enemies throughout the entire game? I noticed this was the case in the T2 training mode as well.

[edit]: I should clairify that I'm not asking if they'll all be stupid. That's a given. I'm asking if all the fighting I'll be doing will be against legions of foes.

it was wave combat because thats what the level was.A wave of people to shoot in a small arena.

That's why I asked if it would be this way in the rest of them.

No, the SP levels are extremely varied and unique. In the full game there are many different types of missions; vehicular missions, indoor and outdoor missions, missions that focus on attacking and missions that focus on defending, missions where it helps to be stealthy (think playing as a light with a sniper rifle) and missions where its better to go rambo-style (eg. you're in heavy armour with a mortar). Linear missions where you're objectives need to be completed in a certain order, and non-linear missions where the objectives can be completed in any order you choose, where doing so will give you different advantages and disadvantages (think Deus Ex, I guess). There are missions that take place in a small play area (such as the demo) and missions that take place in gigantic playing areas that may span multiple levels.

So no, the SP levels are definately not all wave-orientated.

hmm... I'm almost surprised that you mentioned Deus Ex, as opposed to System Shock....... didn't some of you dev's have a hand in that game?

As for the SP gameplay, I'm actually looking forward to it, considering the dev's history.

System Shock is a perfect example of having to complete your goals in a certain order. The only case I can think of where this wasn't true is when you had to insert Toxin A into the 5 enviromental idontknowwhats on Hydroponics. Other than that, there was a perfect order of having to go here, take access card, go in there with access card, restore power, take elevator with restored power to next deck etc.

In Deus Ex... think Hell's Kitchen. You could buy some stuff from Smuggler before you rescued his friend in the sewers, but you had to pay a lot more.

It's not bad becuase they designed the game around the AI not being smarter than the player. The only way to settle than is to add more of them, give them better autoaim, or make them tougher.

Personally I like the wave combat -- it makes you feel like the invincible hero.
