Amadeus 09-20-2004, 10:30 AM Well the thing is, if it takes that much coordination to stop ONE guy, then things are out of balance. I think the grappler is great, but I definately feel it will need some balancing down the road. I've already seen things done on Isle/Winterlake that are just RIDICULOUS and the game hasn't even gone gold yet.
You act as if defense wouldn't evolve over time. The O has been given a brand new tool, now it's the D's turn to figure out how to counter it. It will take some time, but I'm pretty sure that there will be a stage at some point in T:V's history where the grappler won't be used much.
Proximus 09-20-2004, 10:41 AM removing click to release will seriously unbalance the grappler and is the most stupid idea ever.
stfu.
any reasoning behind this?
its been like that in every grapple game i know
so it cant be that stupid
:)
BadMoFo 09-20-2004, 10:42 AM yes.
Equaknox 09-20-2004, 10:58 AM holysh*t, stop whining about the grappler. It's a pain in the ass on one map. (Caveran)
Just play smarter, and learn to ajust.
if you know how to cg, they die like pigs.
Polaris 09-20-2004, 11:04 AM removing click to release will seriously unbalance the grappler and is the most stupid idea ever.

wtf are you talking about?
Coylter 09-20-2004, 11:16 AM Burner take care of those grappler whore in no time...
I don't understand why everyone is so negative about new features. If you want to play T1 or T2.... then effing play it.
IMO the grappler owns. Anyone with a little skill can take a grapple whore out. For those of you who don't like the grappler in the game, try using it to wip around corners, ledges, or poles. It adds a new level to the control you have over your movement. And I am sure the devs will do (or have already done) everything they can to make it the best it can be for the final release.
As for the idiot who complained about detailed grass... perhaps you're right. Let's just play maps with no detail, just colored box rooms. Devs have to concentrate on both satisfying the loyal Tribes community and bringing in new players. After all, they are trying to sell the game. In order to do this, they have to compete with the other studios. I've said before that I believe T:V will be the funnest of the new released this year. As long the gameplay is up-to-par, then better graphics can only make the game better.
There has also been concern (aka complaining) about the map design. The style of missions in the beta is different... but there is nothing wrong with it. I invite this change. Smaller vs. large maps is the same type of difference as indoor vs. outdoor, vehicles vs. none, open flag vs. stop-capping. Variety in missions is better for pubbing and tournaments alike. You don't need to worry about mappers releasing classic maps and new maps that match the exact style you are used to.
If anything ruins T:V, it will be the poor attitude of 50% of the Tribes community. Not the playability or the level of quality of this game. I applaud the development crew and am incredibly excited for the final release. We should all be excited about new features and changes from the previous titles because they are what is going to make this game fun. The short time the open beta has been out is obviously not enough time for anyone to determine what T:V gameplay will become. It will evolve (just like for the other two games) and people will find ways of balancing everything you can think of doing. Including grappling.
Let's at least give the game a few months after the final release before we decide it sucks. And maybe the community could be a little less critical of the game so we don't look like a bunch of immature effs.
That's my 2 cents.

First off, I agree, please make the grapple a "destroyable" item... I love the grapple, have been grappling vehicles and even other players- really cool item!
I also agree with the above quote. I know that the modders out there will make this game into whatever we want, and can only applaud the efforts of the dev team in giving us such a great tool in T:V! We should be showing our gratitude in being given a new game, a new engine, in which to continue our Tribes traditions. One of the big Tribes traditions is modding, and our modders will take this tool and make it into exactly what we need (I for one play T2 Version 2, and am looking forward to T:V Version 2). Here's to 4 more years of fun and excitement playing my favorite game!
SmartZ 09-20-2004, 03:05 PM Dont forget, people, that there will be mods. Anything involving gameplay you dont like will be editied by someone in the years to come.
Asura 09-20-2004, 03:08 PM i swear to god, if i hear another reply advocating that we just mod somthing to fix it, i will find them and beat them to death with a nerf bat.
Amadeus 09-20-2004, 03:12 PM i swear to go, if i hear another reply advocating that we just mod somthing to fix it, i will find them and beat them to death with a nerf bat.
Can I go with you?
You see people, this sounds all fine and dandy on paper, but let's get real: almost any mod has more crap in it than it fixes.

Then we will have 10 evil jimzillion gametypes out there and the community will be split once again.
no thanks!
KambuL 09-20-2004, 03:25 PM hmm was about to say throw in a cordinated offense and they will probally get flag out, but then again if they did the defense would suck obviously. This is my conclusion of the above quote.
so you are saying your cordinated defense sucks if you had to return flags on other side of the map? and that cordinated offense is more important than a defense, such as it is a few defense players or a fraction of your team should be able to stop their cordinated offense is how i am reading your two post. mmkay.
I have no idea what you are talking about.
Giljo 09-20-2004, 03:27 PM All we need to be able to do is hook the grappler about neck height for incoming cappers and be able to decapitate.
now that would be the shazbot, a headless body flying away with the flag rofl
rofl

Asura 09-20-2004, 03:29 PM i would love to clothsline a capper. exelent entertainment value.

Asura 09-20-2004, 03:38 PM thats better than OUR grappler and thats a MOD.

Oh yes, it's because mods exist that the community splits
I'd rather have a split community than one that simply evaporates. More choices keep more people playing, which in turn makes sure that the game will continue to be supported down the road.
