Greywolf 09-18-2004, 10:17 PM Im not playing as much for these reasons:
1)4 maps, duh
2) its a beta, so it has the problems that will be fixed(i hope) in retail
3)We dont know how much the gameplay will change with the add-ons or deductions from gameplay when retail comes out
So im waiting till the retail(oct 5) and seeing what they changed
MikSchultzy 09-18-2004, 10:25 PM Playing the same 4 maps over and over gets old. =\
Granted, the full game is gonna have hella lots of maps.
borlaK 09-18-2004, 10:31 PM feel the same way as I did in T2
mastered the basics
don't learn shazbot in pubs
need specific practice mods to get better at the skill part of the game, and need scrims/matches to get better at the thinking part of the game
Mystical 09-18-2004, 10:34 PM I haven't played in 3 or 4 days. I still game everyday I just cant convince myself to click on T:V. Think I'm just sick of the Lag and the low FPS.
escorpio 09-18-2004, 10:36 PM life
Gmoney 09-18-2004, 10:54 PM I enjoy this game when my clan members are on so whenever we actually start competing ,and practicing is when ill be playin alot more. The game gets boring after your playin wit ppl u dont even know or, your not gonna be competing against.
Writer 09-18-2004, 11:18 PM Maps is a good one.
Couple other theories not mentioned in this thread:
LACK OF BETA UPDATES. Feeling that we're not playing the "actual" game, since the current internal build must be pretty far removed by now.
After almost 6 years, just tired of Tribes?
Just spitballin' here, but hey.
sonic- 09-18-2004, 11:22 PM need specific practice mods to get better at the skill part of the game
Speaking of which, how is T:V LakRabbit coming along?
Undisciplined 09-18-2004, 11:24 PM There was quite an influx of new players just trying out the game, I'd imagine that most people who tried it and didn't like it/have had enough for now have stopped playing. Despite all the dumbing down, it is still a tough game for new players to get into (especially since there is no tutorial in the form of single player yet). Some people don't get the same impact from Tribes as some of us, too - things like unspectacular graphics and bugs turn away the more casual gamers.
Coylter 09-18-2004, 11:35 PM And a lot of people don't like Tribes, these people include halo fanboys, ut fanboys, bf fanboys, and ps2 fanboys (the worst of them all).
It's sad but true.
I am a "halo fanboy" and i love t:v....retire that.
Coylter 09-18-2004, 11:39 PM I dont care how many player play the game as long as i can find a server with more than 5-10 player.
edit: sry for double post
Emilee 09-18-2004, 11:48 PM Perhaps your "peak hours" on Friday and Saturday are everyone elses "going out and not sitting home on the weekend time"?
A lot of people who have never played Tribes may have given up.
americanjoe 09-18-2004, 11:54 PM Granted, the full game is gonna have hella lots of maps.
what? 10? that’s not a hella lot ... I think, and this is my opinion, no one else’s, that T:V is being slowly killed because of it's lack in creativeness, nothing is innovative about it, and there is nothing new brought into it's gameplay.
The model for the gameplay is so based on the other popular FPS franchises out there, and that is fast paced kill um all and cap the flag gameplay that UT, Q3:TA, CS, and other DM based games. I think the DEV team tried to hard to copy these types of FPS games with a Jetpack involved instead of trying to come up with a innovative game. Look at what Tribes did to the FPS gametype. It introduced different types of game mechanics, a new element of movement in a FSP environment and new and exciting weapon types. It also had OUTSTANDING netcode for a game of it's time and superior team based gameplay.
If you look at T:V, what has it brought to the FPS game play? anything new and exciting to keep players playing and trying to get better? what happened to the thrill factor of just playing the game? what satisfaction do you get for playing hours on end?
To answer most of those you'll have to really say .. nothing ..
In terms of gameplay, there is nothing new in T:V. In terms of keeping players interested and trying to get better, there is nothing new. In terms of the thrill of T:V, it is gone, I don't get a thrill in MAs anymore because I know it's not my skill, it the ease of the simplified game. In terms of playing the game for hours because of the satisfaction of playing the game there is nothing new. It gets rather boring to play for more than 2 maps.
I know I have flamed T:V since closed beta because I had a insider look into the game, and I know I have flamed a lot of teenaged whiners here, and even the TW community it self, but for the most part I just wanted to see T:V come out on top and be the best Tribes based game in the group.
At last with the open beta and the "feature complete" attitude the IG team has now taken, I can rest assured that T:V will be the last game to hold the Tribes franchise and the death of the franchise. You may laugh and flame me, but deep down you know that if T:V stays anywhere in it's current gameplay state, it was finished before it goes gold. It may be a hit among those who think it's the best thing since the golden girls, but from what I've seen from in and around the ENTIRE tribes community, thoses players only make up 10-15% of the entire Tribes fanbase. Lets just hope someone comes along and creates another game that captures what made Tribes great, because Vengeance is not it ...
adieu
FishStix 09-18-2004, 11:57 PM its a weekend. thats the key
Wulfen 09-18-2004, 11:59 PM Perhaps your "peak hours" on Friday and Saturday are everyone elses "going out and not sitting home on the weekend time"?
A lot of people who have never played Tribes may have given up.
I've noticed the same thing during the week too. It's disappointing, but I can't say I'm surprised.
I think Writer nailed it.
I played every night for the first week or two, now it's a hassle. There's too many bugs, too many irritations, too many little imbalances that add up. Add to that the things that I personally care about being terribly incomplete or a mess, and I'm having a hard time *wanting* to play.
They made this game for Joe Gamers out there, but what happens when they don't want to play it either? You could have made this with the competitive community in mind and had just as many or more interested and playing even right now.
I guess we'll see how it turns out after retail since we won't get to test any other changes, but I'm worried they already missed the mark.
ruready 09-19-2004, 12:06 AM T:V is a mockery of the Tribes franchise and should not hold the Tribes name.
The game has it's moments but it's longevity, in my case, may not extend past the beta test period. Unfortunately I wasn't expecting the sequel to UT2K4 and that's all I got.
enDless_Delirium 09-19-2004, 12:10 AM I am a "halo fanboy" and i love t:v....retire that.
he didn't say all Halo fanboys hated Tribes. He said the group of people who hated Tribes included some Halo fanboys.
Even if he did say all halo fanboys, there are always exceptions to the rule.
AcidBurn 09-19-2004, 12:11 AM The game was effing awesome for the first 2 weeks, now its just eh at best. The many, MANY, bugs in the game are starting to piss off a lot of people, the lack of a mute command, and the lack of a vote to kick retards is also making people leave servers a lot. It should be better at retail, depending on how many bugs are fixed(god I hope they fix the randomly getting stuck in mid air one). Playing the same 4 maps just gets boring.
Father Ruckus 09-19-2004, 12:14 AM Another trend is the most popular games run on relatively crap systems, easy to pickup and learn and get good at. Two of the most popular games are free (america's army and enemy territory) and most of the top online games are WWII FPS games.
almost everygame in the top 10 is a cookie cutter version of the other w/ diff weapons and graphics
Emilee 09-19-2004, 12:14 AM Do you need a hanky for those tears?
