Some things that have been noted prior i believe hurt this game alot.
Old School gamers opinon:
I think the biggest issue as an T1 player is the grapple. In its implication it has really hurt many things in Tribes that were cool/fun.
Light Defense (LD) has been made pretty weak or in some cases competitivly inviable. Trying to chase a energypack grappler using Capper going 300 k per hr from a dead or almost dead stop is nearly Impossible.
One of the coolest aspects of playing LD was the chase.... TV has pretty much killed it.
Also what was very dynamic about old T1 and T2 was learning routes... to be a good capper it was necessary to learn the terrain to maximize it in order to make quick fast and efficiant capping.
Presently i find HO in TV alot more enjoyable since its still usefull for HO to navigate and use the terrain to gain advantage.
Lastly Grappling has made HD/hof positions less meaningfull. In T1 and T2 if the capper grabbed the HD had a chance at hitting the capper with a well placed and skillfull Morter shot as they skiied. I remember being in awe as guys like Burnyabad and others would AMAZE me by perfectly timed Morter shots on incomming and outgoing cappers. Trying to do this on maps like Cavern are simply impossible now. :/
Newbie 1st time Beta Players:
The inventory CPU freezup. Sure once you play it fo a while you start looking at using your quick ctrl- keys when gearing. However newbies to the game wont do that right away. As been said before People DL many many Beta or Demos on a weekly basis. However if you constantly lock up a persons computer who want to try out a game...You wont have them hanging around very long to give TV a chance.
Competitive/Non tribes players:
Trying to get them to stick with TV will be a challenge. One of the biggest issues in TV are the (SPAM) types of weaponry.
TV hosts many Spammy weapons....frankly Pro gamers hate Spam weapons. There known to b used by Noob players who lack the skill to aim and shoot.
Sure we have the Machine gun and the Laser rifle. But the remainder are Splash weapons.
I will put to the side that a spinfuser does take a bit more skill and due to the mobility of the player...getting a MA does take some decent Aim.
So what does tha leave? Morter, plasma, grenade launcher, rocket pods.
Look at that lineup... 1/2 of the avail weapons are "Spray and Pray" type weapons.
Most games that are popular out there might have 1-2 spam weapons...the rest are ones that require a certain amount of skill to master.
Maybe this is part of why the game gets so boring after a little while. With the weapons avail there isnt enough array of skill type weaponry that make you go out and want to learn more and practice to gain skill.
