T:V loosing interest? Player count drops rapidly.°Gn0m3_Gr0wN° 09-25-2004, 09:19 PM or give free pr0n with every purchase mc-fine 09-25-2004, 09:23 PM BitRaiser is right about mainstream preferring slower paced gameplay. But also mainstream is not looking for CTF anymore. SS2845 would have been a nice draw. Would be cool if devs worked with them to speed things along and polish. Having said that I prefer my Tribes fast and action packed rather than dull and painfully tedious like T2. Nutcracker 09-25-2004, 10:01 PM I stopped playing because it was buggy, a little too buggy for continuous enjoyable play. The demo would only start like 1/5 times and would just freeze my computer the other times. I have been very busy of late and had little time to play also. T:V is fairly good, I like the speed, I love the loook in general, I don't mind the simplified tactics. At this point in tiime I haven't gone out and pre-ordered it. I am still very unsure, the demo was not bad and the maps seemed quite cool. I am worried about the time I will have to put in to actually play competetively(it isn't fun to lose). I am worried about the very lame land verhicles. I am worried about my cash flow for other games this quarter. It is fair to say I have so far enjoyed all tribes games. It will be a hard decision. PyroPrinces 09-25-2004, 11:30 PM Hurricane! haha Blackwolf_iv 09-26-2004, 12:50 AM the ONLY thing i miss from t2 is tmail, chat and the browser made it really easy to make a tribe and get organised I also kind of miss the vehicles i thought the cover art for t2 was good DOX 09-26-2004, 01:36 AM http://members.westnet.com.au/iamlagin/GG!.jpg Emilee 09-26-2004, 01:38 AM Whoa, #25 after almost 6 years isnt bad. :) Where is T2? Does it count the bots as "players"? sYs|yavor 09-26-2004, 04:04 AM T2 has a wrong number of players. This has happened after one of the latest Sierra's action with auth servers. But you know, T2 is a shazbotty game, so who cares... j00d 09-26-2004, 08:40 AM T2 has a wrong number of players. This has happened after one of the latest Sierra's action with auth servers. But you know, T2 is a shazbotty game, so who cares... sort of like how travel was a shazbotty movie Rilke 09-26-2004, 09:17 AM plz bf1942 demo had '1' map and servers where packed for ages till retail. Don't listen to DOX's trickster tale. He knows the difference between qauntity and quality. :D sYs|yavor 09-26-2004, 09:53 AM sort of like how travel was a shazbotty movie Shazbotty game = shazbotty movies. j00d 09-26-2004, 10:05 AM Shazbotty game = shazbotty movies. shazbotty players + shazbotty game = shazbotty movies sYs|yavor 09-26-2004, 10:33 AM shazbotty players + shazbotty game = shazbotty movies Oh, we should extend... shazbotty developer + shazbotty game + shazbotty community + shazbotty players = shazbotty movies j00d 09-26-2004, 10:47 AM Oh, we should extend... shazbotty developer + shazbotty game + shazbotty community + shazbotty players = shazbotty movies that just about covers it all... with maybe the exception of "shazbotty fileplanet exclusives + ..." do you really see yourself making a t:v movie as epic as travel? menes 09-26-2004, 12:23 PM What did you guys expect? They removed half the stuff that made T1 great (never mind even mentioning the few improvements from T2-- and there were some!). TV is totally Tribes lite. It has faster skiing than in T2, but that's it's only plus. Base Raping is ridiculously easy on most maps, but so is repairing. Instead of actually requiring skill to defend or rape a base (like say on the original RD) now it's just a big spammy clustereff. Deployable turrets are a pain in the ass to deploy (the system in T1 was way better). At the same time the turrets can take a hit from a MORTAR and still be there, so they're a pain in the ass to destroy. The balance in T1 with easily deployed turrets (spam them at the station), but having them easily destroyed was the best. The new system is a step down from both T1 and even what we had in T2 (at least a single mortar could take them out there). The packs have been totally dumbed down. The repair pack repairs everything in the frickin' base (there's the too easy to repair thing). The ammo pack is gone. Why? Was that pack soooooo complex that no one could figure out how to use it? The shield pack has been totally dumbed down. No longer do you have to manage your energy. It used to be a skill to turn your shield pack off between incoming HO mortar spam to let it recharge....now that's gone and the pack is just on for five seconds and then gone for 30 seconds. The shield pack is now more useful for a light capper than a heavy D, WTF?!! Everyone spawns inside the base and because of that owning a base is much more difficult (along with the PoS super repair pack). Everyone spawns inside the base so even if the HoF or LD is killed they can be back into position in about 20 seconds. The extra time running into the base may not be that much, but it does make a difference when it comes to disrupting a team's defense. Skiing just sucks. Sure, you can ski fast, but it's nothing like in T1. Trying to ski with a heavy is just a chore. Yeah, it's possible, but if you screw up then you either lose all momentum or end up half way across the map from where you wanted to be. And while I'm on that topic, heavies totally suck. They are weak and easy to kill. The mortars are weak and don't even kill a deployed turret. Instead of dropping a mortar on a turret you have to drop two on it, while moving, while being attacked. It was an incredibly stupid change. In T1 heavies were pretty tough, but with the right skill (mine-disc, etc) you could take them out fairly quickly. In T2 the shocklance more or less replaced mine-discing. In TV there's no quick way to take out heavies, but at the same time they're so weak they just die fast anyway. Anyway, I could gripe all day, but the problem with TV doesn't have anything to do with maps or the inventory system (which sucks) or even the stupid grapple. It has to do with the fact that everything that was balanced skill/skill (HO/LD+HD, deployer/HO+LO) has now been dumbed down or completely removed. Instead we get a base that's spammed down in 5 seconds and repaired in 5 seconds. We get an HoF who dies in 15 seconds because of the new bullshazbot shield pack, but who is back in position in 15 seconds (much shorter than in any previous Tribes game). The gameplay is just a total joke! I feel sorry for the devs who wasted so much time working on TV, but the game is an absolute failure at what they set out to accomplish. The game is no easier for a new player to play, but it is far less rewarding for a veteran player. They removed all the depth and left the complexity. They should have just remade T1, the game would have been a lot more fun and would have been a lot more successful. This is exactly right. The devs should have just made an updated version of T2 that could be drastically scaled "down" for the ADD crowd that want "Tribes 4 UT" type game play. Chances are that this is impossible due to the Unreal engine not be specifically geared towards epic gameplay like the GG's thrown together engine. Sure the Unreal engine looks great but it really fails to mimic the real tribes feel that both T1 & T2 shared. No matter how much I play TV it still feels more like UT to me than either T1 or T2. I'm not surprised. When it was announced irrational was doing the game odds were that this would be true. TV<T2/T1 (TV=gangs, T2/T1=Tribes) but thats ok cause todays music<than old, etc, etc, etc. We expect and receive less (while paying more ;)) and thats what make the world go round. Hopefully the modders can at least add a little depth to the game. Right now its as exciting as......that Sam game. Whats amazing is with my new computer upgrade T2 never crashes anymore. No more UE's. Now I live with TV crashes. :) sYs|yavor 09-26-2004, 12:54 PM do you really see yourself making a t:v movie as epic as travel? No, Irrational Tribes is not a game on epic scale. Personally I'm looking for a good sky texture (autumn in Poland soon, so I'll make a few photos). Then I'll make my last game movie. T2 in shazbotty main role. It will be epic. ;-) Golgac 09-26-2004, 01:09 PM You can't recreate magic. I remember telling Marweas this and he responded "just wait and see" and that I would be very surprised with T:V. I think when I first heard about a single player version I knew their focus was solely on sales (which deservingly should be). It just made me wonder how tribes 1 was ever made in the first place. Legends is/was more fun to me than T:V so far. sYs|yavor 09-26-2004, 01:26 PM Golgac, the more I listen the soundtrack the more I'm sure I can. ZenTseTse 09-26-2004, 01:31 PM i'll say it again... this style of gameplay just isnt mainstream like it used to be in 1999/2000, when ut/q3/tribes dominated online gaming with sportsy ctf, big player movements and splashy projectile weapons. at the risk of putting things in perspective and suggesting tribes is part of a genre *gasp*, the trends are against it unfortunately. this could change... and i had hoped it would have shifted back a bit more than it has. when is the last time a game with big player movement, splashy projectile weapons and the main gametype(s) being sportsy ctf... was a major success online? the last two major ones were Tribes2 and UT2k3. there have been tons of little ones and mods... which are mostly forgotten. the last big CTF games (with splash projectiles and huge player movements) were all from that 1999 era... when 14.4 modems still dominated. Bingo. The big thing now is reality titles and large scale warfare. I don't see this trend changing anytime soon. So what we end up with is T:V competing with UT and that is it. People playing BF and CoD are NOT going to give T:V even a glance. So the only hope is stealing players from the UT playerbase, hopefully that will be enough to keep the brand alive for another game. | ||
