BLuE_ZeRO 09-14-2004, 06:35 PM If you can hit a flag carrier swinging from the roof with a laser, you can hit them with a disc. If anything, it makes them alot more predictable.
If you've seen anyone that is damn good with a grapple you wouldn't say that at all. Predictable is anything but what they are. The disc moves a million times slower than a rifle shot anyways so what do the two have to do with eachother? Not saying it's impossible to hit someone with the disc but when they know how to grapple well it becomes extremely difficult.
Zero-Optix 09-14-2004, 06:43 PM Is there a difference between O sniping and O Bombing from waaay up in the air....heh. Since there are no flares and homing missles. A long range attack that will kill the flag carrier instantly.

if people are still crying about o-sniping, they really need to shoot themselves in the face with a nailgun until they fall over
LivinDeath 09-14-2004, 06:57 PM Heh their servers, their rules. Got no problem with that.. When I play on those servers I simply won't do it.
Still, I was just politely questioning the rationale, as I don't quite buy it.
I am not advocating turtling, but then on a pub, its almost as bad as turtling when there is one or two on O, and a full arsenal of D/turrets and the flag carrier is grappling around at mach3 with full energy and invens nearby. You guys want to avoid the 10 minute standoffs, guess what, so do I.
You know, there is so much presedence. In competitive play one of the tribes that was renowned for o sniping the capper at or near his base was 'Reck'.. Particularly Locke and Vox, who later became IE. That was before the time of a lot of people who are calling me a newb, but back then O sniping the capper on competitive pubs wasn't frowned on. It didn't produce turtling, and could speed up gameplay.
I for one say 'ns' if I get sniped as a capper if I am flying around the back of a base, I don't consider it taking any less skill than being mid air disked or mortar spammed.

But you're not there to make the return, so what good is it?

It takes less skill because you don't lead your shot like you do with a mortar or a disc. It takes substantially less prediction, and you scarcely have to account for your own movement.

Hurricane Harold 09-14-2004, 07:19 PM ?
The vehicle ceiling limit isn't that high in T:V. Combine that with the slowness of the bombers, and relative slowness of their projectiles, and I don't think it's the same.
Xunely 09-14-2004, 08:22 PM Well, if a sniper(s) can effectively snipe you (the capper) from range and return the flag dont cry. Maybee your team should of been defending you better.
Also,
Your trying to tell me that you would not have died if the person that was sitting out by the side of your base and O snipeing you had gone in with a gren launcher/disc/chain with speed pack. That also means one more O is closer to the flag when it drops increasing the chance that it will be returned.
Oh shazbot, I forgot. You cant use the speedpack or the chaingun either. Pods are outlawed and the bomber is insta cry on most servers. Raping unless its 10v10 means multiple calls for WAaaHMbulances. Using the turrets on Isle or Cavern also is not allowed. Why dont we all play f***ing pong. Im sure someone would cry that the left side has the advantage because they read left to right. Anyways, I wont be playing on servers that have a 2 page list of special rules.
Anyways, cappers need to use some brains. if you see a sniper , put angles on him and get behind some form of cover (Hill, Base, Tree, anything). You should have 1 d sniper taking out the o sniper. not hard at all.
sorry for long post.
I know most will just see member coupled with a long post and skip it.
I dont use my real ingame name, nor will I tell you what tribe I played for in t1 or t2. I dont want people looking down on my tribe because I **gasp** use the sniper rifle past our base. **shock**
Njal Storm 09-14-2004, 08:29 PM omg lame.
the only rules of the game should be what is hard coded on the disc.
i, of course, obey server rules, but turtling, o'sniping, to me it just makes things interesting.
if both sides have the same abilities ---> GAME ON

Agreed.
As long as a known EXPLOIT is not being used
FishStix 09-14-2004, 08:45 PM osniping capper right before cap is fine. stop whining fools

we are self-proclaimed l337'ist here.......... <cough>
PyroTeknik 09-14-2004, 08:51 PM I have not read the thread past the first page.
I just want to have a yellow dot in this epic thread where a guy nobody has ever heard of called TRD a newb.
Njal Storm 09-14-2004, 08:52 PM lol, see...................... .......
TheRedDread 09-14-2004, 08:57 PM We put a message in the MOTD, a webpage link in the MOTD and the words '[Nazi Rules]' in the server title. Problem is, stupid people don't read.
If they don't want to follow the house rules, fine, don't play there. I don't come over to your house and open up your frig and eat what I want, or crap on your carpet - so don't do it in my house.
Antares Reign 09-14-2004, 09:05 PM :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:: rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
O sniping is only bad if the server you're on prohibits it.
If they do, there is no way to O-snipe that is somehow outside the rule of "No O-sniping"
JongyFong 09-14-2004, 09:52 PM First of all you need to define what O-Sniping is. Crossing the imaginary line that seperates any given map and then using your sniper rifle does not instantly turn you into an O-Sniper. Where as on competition servers anything goes, there are 2 aspects of sniping that are considered lame on Pub servers.
First of all, sitting in range of the enemy base and just taking pop shots all game long and spamming the sniper rifle doesn't contribute anything to your team and only serves to annoy. That isn't to say D-Snipers should just have a free pass to sit on the flag and never move, so stepping up when you happen to be in the offensive zone to take out a few LD's and clear the flag area is fine when done with good judgement.
It is also an unwritten rule that when there is a standoff all offensive sniper rifles shouldn't attack the flag carrier. Its not taboo, but it does slow the game down. However, if you're in active pursuit of a flag carrier, just because he enters his teams "area" does not mean he's immediately off limits to sniper fire.
