These arguments are pointless. Let them get away with their poor etiquette on noob pubs. Just ban them on sight if they try to touch a vet server

:signed:

Some people seem to think that pub servers are a real war over the fate of humanity or something like that. This do anything to win attitude should be kept to matches if it has to exist at all.

Games are for fun, especially on pubs.
OSniping/Turtling make the game less fun.

I'll let people draw their own conclusions from this.

Yes, it's so god damn easy on Winterlake

I'll concede that Winterlake enemy bases can be a bitch to break into. That said, it's not the turtling that's the problem so much as poor base design on that particular map. Removing the forcefield on the backdoor would make it abit easier to smoke out a turtle on that map.

Tribes is about skiing and speed, not about trying to break through mortarspam and automated turret defense.

It's about both ... using speed to break through a solid defence.

O Sniping a capper is only stupid if its a stalemate, if you were chasing him and snipe him before he caps i dont really think thats a problem.

True.

I wouldn't mind trying out the game without restrictions, see how it balances in T:V. (I don't snipe :) )

Yes, it's so god damn easy on Winterlake  And yeah, maybe vast majority of newbs enjoy trying to "break the defense" and failing simultaneously until they MAYBE succeed and return the flag, but it ruins the game for anyone who likes faster gameplay. And the thing happens to be that it's usually the vets who host the servers, not the "let's infiltrate their base, we luv cloakpacks!" newbs.

Tribes is about skiing and speed, not about trying to break through mortarspam and automated turret defense.

I love that last statement. If its about skiing and speed, why even bother with the weapons and whatnot?

I hear this bullshazbot argument about "its not fun" over and over again... That its not sportsmanlike, that its cheap... yadda yadda yadda...

Well isnt a constant barrage of HO baserapers a cheap tactic? I mean I played a pub today on winterlake when there was a heavy (if not two) raping the (imperial) base EVERY 10-15 SECONDS... No chance of setting up any sort of effective D, they'd ski on in and mortar a path through over and over again to the point where it was just "respawn, grap rep pack, rep to the point the gens/inv stations/deployers work then get blown up again.

How much "fun" is that eh? It wasnt even frustrating... it was boring. And our team STILL won the match... go figure. And I didnt whine like a bitch about it; but GODDAMN, ya'll do a HELL of a lot of whining about tactics. If it were up to all you "l33t" vets, once you got the flag everyone should just let you take it back, cuz anything short of that gets y'all's panties in a bunch.

And ya know, I started playing in the latter days of T1 (well before T2 tho), I played T2 (and it was cool, despite some glaring problems), and T:V is cool too, but the arrogance and eliteist attitudes of the "old timers" is definitely a big turnoff to casual players, and despite what the "vets" at TribalWar think the hardline competition crew is NOT (I repeat for emphasis NOT) the bread-and-butter of VU, Sierra, or IG. The couple thousand of you guys who play in ladders and so forth (lets even be generous here and say 5k players) may be the best players, but y'all are only a fraction of the fanbase needed to make the game successful. And just because its how YOU play doesnt mean "thats what the game is"... Period. The game was made to appeal to a broader fanbase this time (for good or ill, I havent decided yet) and Im going out on a limb here to say that if you would STOP effING WHINING long enough to actually lead by example rather than complaining everyone out and acting all "l33t3r than thou", we MIGHT, just MIGHT have a community that would retain players and T:V would be successful enough to warrant more Tribes games...

Maybe Im just dreaming tho.

(apologies for rambling, its 4:30 in the morning, Im not at my most cohesive)

all the peole who defend O sniping and turtling on pubs etc, don't they ever realize that no-one supports them except other people who have never played on a serious competition side?

surely at some point you have to look at the people in each camp, and realize that its you and other n00bs, against people who have been playing the game at the highest level for years.

At this point, is it not unreasonable to expect them to consider "well maybe my opinion isn't gospel after all"?

In a public server you aren't allowed to snipe flag carriers (or anyone else) offensively. It encourages flag carriers to go inside and "turtle," which is no fun for anyone.

Exactly.

Being a successful O sniper (meaning one that helps his or her team) takes a hell of alot more "skill" than being a HO base raper or a D sniper with laser sight permanently set on the flag stand.

In a public server you aren't allowed to snipe flag carriers (or anyone else) offensively.

This is not true of course. Some servers with anal admins have these artificial rules. There's nothing sweeter than entering one of these servers and O Sniping one of these admins just for laughs. =)

Me neither, and I've been playing lots of TV since the Fileplanet beta started and have hardly seen the sniper riffle used at all. I just don't see what the problem is.

The all seeing sensor means snipers can't hide and have little chance against a half decent light that's spotted them anyway.

I'd say in T:V the pod is much more annoying as the sniper rifle hardly works. However, if server admins want to ban the rifle, thats up to them. They're paying for the server.
