Proximus 09-15-2004, 06:58 AM Whatever. You guys will eventually learn what makes for fun pub play the same as we have in the 5-6 years of pubbing we have. These rules weren't put into place just to be nazi's, they were put into place so people can have fun pubs.
If you guys can't understand that, have fun on your noob servers. We'll still be on the full vet servers having a great time running fun, competitive games with lots of flag action and teamwork.
lol
i was playing pong in like 1978
in my experience "vet" servers mean theres a select group of ppl who get vip treatment and rest need to shut up or get kicked for some shazbotty reason like n00bness or o-sniping
Proximus 09-15-2004, 07:05 AM This rule is very strange to me. And I've played a hell of alot of CTF gamers, started way back with Q1. And I've never run into any simiular rules, more than you don't TK(duh) or spawnkill... But sure if you want to have silly rules like, "if I pass that line, you cant kill me", then go ahead. You won't be seeing me there. :p
You adapt to the game, the game doesn't adapt to you... :D
in q2ctf u had the 'no-bfg' rule
something that never worked and always ended up in whining and complaining

Kaden 09-15-2004, 07:34 AM The no 'O-sniping the flag carrier', unwritten rule in pubs is simply a way of advancing gameplay, and preventing stalemates.
Anyone who doesnt 'get' that part of it is either enormously 'new' to Tribes pub play, Or simply doesnt care, and is a point whore.
doesnt matter to me either way, I'm not a capper, and i prefer chasing up close and personal.... To each thier own.
Zustiur 09-15-2004, 07:58 AM For those that missed it on page 2:
What some people can't seem to figure out is just because you CAN stop these things doesnt mean you WANT to spend your gaming time doing it.
I just had a game with a tk. The same basic effect applies. the tk, or o sniper has fun, and everyone else doesn't. Therefore they get kicked.
Remember folks, if your fun is at someone else's expence, they will not like you for it.
Zustiur.
lol @ comparing a sniper to a tk... Funny people in these forums...
Proximus 09-15-2004, 08:48 AM Just had a game on emerald
its a standoff
i tried everything lo ho mo mortars discs burners chains but the dude just stood on the roof sniping and his team was killing every effort and when i got close he used his height advantage and just jet up real high
then i took my rifle and shot him in the head from about a 100 yards
be4 his team could react i retrieved flag which was on the roof
tada stalemate broken!
i wish i didnt read all this shazbot i would not have wasted 15mins and sniped hiss ass right away
Damrod 09-15-2004, 09:07 AM TribalWar.com: We O snipe
Grand Masta D 09-15-2004, 09:25 AM O sniping is perfectly acceptable when the target is either Fool or Spy.

Yea because you never connect.

Regarding the "it's not fun" argument I have to say that based on this thread that is an opinion rather than a fact. On base servers my personal opinion is that artificial rulesets never intended by the developers are "unfun".
Fun is subjective to each individual player and therefore not a valid argument in this debate. One man's "fun" is another man's "boring" so to speak. Stating that the majority (vet or otherwise) agree with one side or the other of this issue is patently untrue as seen by the various opinions voiced in this thread.
I didnt try to pass it off as fact, I said...
I will agree that I like trying to break a turtle, for a little bit. Only because I was usually a HO in T1, or did some sort of base rape. But 20 minutes of it is annoying, and not fun at all, in my opinion.

Yep, that's a choice you always have but some of the suggestions I mentioned would make it either impossible to turltle (no FC in base), harder to keep the turtle (remove FF to open base) or just put a limit on it (e.g. 3 minutes, but you might make that less if common opinion hates it (gameplay balancing), although you should give enough time to break the turtle anyway)
That doesnt make much sense. You dont like a rule saying you cant O snipe, but you want to enforce more rules to counter it? If you dont think someone should tell you not to O snipe, then you dont have the right to tell someone what to do with the flag.
The bottom line is, if you dont like O sniping, play on a server that doesnt allow it, or dont complain if someone does it. Likewise, if you do like O sniping, play on a server that doesnt care, nor has rules, or dont complain if you get kicked from a server that doesnt allow it.
There are far more servers that have no rules, and allow O sniping the carrier.

Your missing something here .... a small faction of the tribes community has made up this unwritten rule about O-sniping. The Renegades Mod players who are all in here at this time, don't play that kiddy shazbot ...you have our flag we are gonna get it back any way possible , including O-sniping! We don't play this game with a bunch of dumb ass unwritten rules. We play the game and learn how to over come , not cry about or make a rule about you can't snipe me to get your flag back!
These people who change this game to suit them selves and force this on all others, then call them selves Veterans and do this in the name of fair play? Are nothing more than selfish. These people also are some of the most condescending people i have ever seen in tribes. They flame every post you make , they call you a noob, even though you'v played this game since the beginning days of T1. So really, what does that say about these self induced egotistical, maniacle, self proclaimed veterans? I certainly don't want anything to do with them! How could playing with them be any fun? Quit trying to change this game to suit your selves and just play!
It's fun to shoot that capper, who thinks he got away or is running around his base, in an attempt to rub your face in the fact he has your flag! Let the O-sniping begin and continue!

Rambro 09-15-2004, 10:42 AM to end this thread once and for all to keep the "fun" factor in pubs up O sniping should only be illegal in stalemates to prevent turtling
this means
If you're defending your flag (either Hof or LD), u can be sniped
If you have the flag and are about to cap, u can be sniped
If you're a known capper heading away form your base to start a run, u can be sniped
^these are all valid effective reasons to "O-snipe"
now can we all get along?
The solution is {for the devs} to prevent the flag from entering an enclosed base - no turtling, it would promote handoffs and passes.. simple really
Rambro 09-15-2004, 10:56 AM ^ this is also true but u know point whores r too 1337 to pass
Asura 09-15-2004, 10:58 AM well, it might also have to do that the flag only goes 2m at full charge at the sacrifice of a weapon. fig the flag, and it MIGHT work.
Rambro 09-15-2004, 11:01 AM If that was the reason for people not passing then, it wouldn't have been such a rarity in t2
Asura 09-15-2004, 11:04 AM i mean thats hamstringing any attenpt at changing the trend. oh, and im too l33t to pointwhore, but im not going to do somthing that might sacrifice the cap for my team on an arbitrairy attempt on somthing that REALLY makes no difference. the only time flag passing is useful is when you are at 1 pnt of health, then i just have my buddy TK me for the falg and were GTG.
