P4 2gig. 1/2 gig RdRam. FX 5900XT, Cable, Win2k up to date. (Dx9c etc)
Connected to an empty server online fiddling with video settings. No problems in general.
I jumped onto a base turret. (Winterlake). Fiddled some more with video settings. (In options). Was satisfied and exited the base turret.
At that point I had a black screen with radar and a couple of other things. (A message saying press 'E' to use the object etc - referring to the antivehicle base turret).
T:V was non-responsive. (System was terrible slow/loaded) I Ctrl-Alt-Del'd to get a taskman. Got there (low rez video) but got nothing but a 'busy' mouse pointer from that point on over the windows dialog.
Required hard powerdown.
I'm not trying that again as a test. Sorry.

As a note - the final settings were in broad strokes, medium (for most everything) and high for fog distance.
