KnightMare 09-13-2004, 10:03 AM does anybody else's FPS drop like a brick when theres about 20 people in the server?I can have everything on low and I'll still be getting less then 30fps.
AMD Barton 2500+ @ 2GHZ
Radeon 9600Pro
Soltek SL-75MRN-L
Windows XP Pro
Corsair 512 PC2700
.footloose. 09-13-2004, 10:14 AM At 2GHtz and a 9600Pro, you should be able to run everything at ultra high with good fps.
Synergy- 09-13-2004, 10:38 AM Yeah mine did this in our first 10 v 10 match while playing D last night.
Intel 2.6C
1 gig kingston hyperx 3500
gf4 ti4200 128mb
Asus p4p800
I also play in 1024x768 with all low settings. It was pretty much a slide show.
Starwind 09-13-2004, 11:13 AM I have:
P4 2.8ghz ht 800fsb
MSI mb
512 pc2700 RAM
GF4 ti4200
I have everything on low and i average about 30 fps
The two main things i need are more memory and a better vid card.
FatesWarning 09-13-2004, 06:57 PM AMD XP 2400
512 x2 pc3200 RAM
GF4 ti4400
SB Audigy 2 ZS
fps are shazbot. avg 30, lots of action forget it. Everything is set to low exept fog distance set to high.
Without spending about $600.00 cdn on a new vid card I might as well forget about competition.

$600? You could buy a card that's a step or two down from an x800/6800...
I still sorta get the point though :)
Knightmare, your 512 ram may be the issue. Then again, I play it on one of our family's two PCs which has almost the same specs (different motherboard, 512mb no-name ram), and with a GF4 and it runs fine.

^^ yup
i have 2.4 ghz radoen 9100 and i get 20-35 fps all the time on medium settings.
unless is cavern with 12 people per team. :warp:
i have a 2.4ghz, 512mb ram, with a radeon9200se, and I run it perfectly at high.
even if there's more than 20 people on a server

I get OK FPS with:
1700+ @ 1.4 ghz
512 pc3200
9600 pro
Somec 09-13-2004, 07:16 PM AMD XP 2800
1 gig ram

I've been in servers with 30 people and the slowdown was negligable... It'll drop to the 40s in big firefights tho methinks (I don't normally play with stats fps on)
Shad0w 09-13-2004, 09:18 PM Amd 2600 Xp(333mhz version none barton)
1gb of ram pc 3200

Most details set on Med, fog set to high, and shadows set to low ..get around 40to50 fps..Heavy battles it drops down to 20 to 30..
Chano 09-13-2004, 10:01 PM 2000+
768mb (2100)

all settings to off/low except distance which is set to high. I'm getting fps in single figures pretty much the whole time on a 16-player server. I suspect my ram sucks :(
Emilee 09-13-2004, 10:17 PM Your 9600 Pro is really hurting you.
Chano, your ram is not the problem. Its running async with your CPU. Even if you had faster ram, it wouldnt matter. Unless you upped your FSB.
KnightMare 09-14-2004, 01:37 AM if a 9600 pro isnt good enough to run with everything low when theres 20 people, this game has already failed.
Emilee 09-14-2004, 01:45 AM "good enough" is subjective.
Online games, with 20+ people, and explosions everywhere are hard on PC's, no matter what game it is. The 9600 Pro is a budget card, you cant expect it to get 60 frames, especially when paired with a budget PC. Thats what ingame quality options are for, and driver quality options. To turn down if you are not liking your frames. At default, T:V sets most things to high.
KnightMare 09-14-2004, 01:49 AM Recommended Specification: Windows® XP
The recommended specification is exactly the same as the minimum specification with the following changes:
1. Windows® XP
2. ATI® Radeon™ 9600 or equivalent DirectX® 9.0c-compliant 128 MB 3D video card with hardware T&L and pixel shader support
3. 2.5 GHz Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD® Athlon™ or faster processor
4. 512 MB RAM or more
so their recommended specs arent good enough? And I could play with 40+ people on my gf4mx in T2.
Emilee 09-14-2004, 01:56 AM As I said, "good enough" is subjective. My brother has a 9600 Pro AIW in his PC. He played Farcry, and enjoyed it, while getting 40's as average, and dropping to the 20's in a lot of action. He liked it fine. He also plays Doom3, and BF:V, and enjoys them both. I tried to play on his PC, and I would not play at that low of settings, and frames. Its just not "fun" to me, but for him its fine.
I have a 9600 Pro in my daughers machine, with a 1800+. It runs T:V decently, with lower settings. As I said, thats why they put options for lower settings in games. You cant expect a machine like that to run a game at a high res, with options on high, and get great frames. He never said what settings he was using, or what res. And as I said, the deault sets most to high.
mikeax2 09-14-2004, 08:34 AM Here is my setup -
AMD Athlon XP "Barton Core" 3000+
3 Gigs of DDR400
SBlive xgamer
Nvidia GFX5700 Ultra 256 (Core Processor overclocked @ 480 mhz Stock Copper HeatSink w/2 fans - added additional heatsink and case fan to help cool)
Win XP Pro
I run with the following config on graphic settings -
Reso - 1024x768
Shadows - Off (Dont Care)
Water detail - low (Dont Care)
Fog - High
Textures - Ultra High
Glow/Pixel/Grass - off (Dont care - bells and whistles)
World detail - High
I Changed the cache in the default.ini to 512 megs and set trilinear to false.
I average between 50-60 FPS with 20-22 players in a server across all maps. Peak FPS has been (131 inside the base on winterlake) but across all maps 80 - 72 fps averaging down to 58-60 generally. With full load (explosions vehicles running around and multiple on screen characters) on the card my average drops to around 38-40 fps.
I have messed around with different configurations, and subtle changes like the water detail level - raised or lowered (on my system) FPS by 15-20. Shadows subtracted around 10 fps. It seems that with a little experimentation and you can get a lot more out of your system than expected.
Also - someone posted that FPS are "capped" at 85. To reiterrate - I have peaked FPS at 132, granted with minimal activity going on.
