cheap gameplay

I can't stand people that call O-Sniping cheap. In T1/T2 it was only cheap if the player was somewhere out-of-bounds where they couldn't be seen, but this problem has been fixed in T:V where nobody can venture out-of-bounds. I was a sniper in the 2 previous Tribes games, and if you ever got 3 or 4 skilled snipers defending a flag it was nearly impossible to cap it unless you had a lot of distraction and timed some kick ass capping route perfectly. O-Sniping is the only effected way to take out D-Snipers, and its frustrating to deal with but part of the game.

O-Sniping entices turtles. If you're willing to O-Snipe, be willing to sit through a turtle, which seems to be inevitable with T:V.

Skilled pod pilots annoy me. Skilled pod pilots who run and repair the thing annoy me even more. Burner and discs can kill them easily if they aren't expecting it, or aren't very smart. If they are skilled, it usually takes a bit more. Luckily I've only seen two pilots who are half-decent and hard to kill.

As for O-Snipers, I've got a sniper rifle headshot on a couple of them by using the buckler to defect the shot. It's always fun to watch them start going around in circles and hiding from me as if I somehow have a rifle, then proceed to shoot at my buckler again :)

O-Sniping is considered lame in pub play because it's usually a waste of a player who could be doing something better. In a match, none of these rules apply. Nobody will bitch if your team chooses to use O Snipers, turtling, or any of the other "lame" tactics. In a match you do what is necessary to win, but in a pub the unofficial rules are there to keep the game moving along and fun for the majority of people.

Nobody is gonna bitch much if you take an occasional potshot on O (well, someone will bitch, but it's not really a big deal), but if you sit in the distance doing nothing but sniping, you're pretty much a waste of a player slot on the server.

-i don't mind O sniping that much, and i don't even do it.
-turtling is part of the game, breaking turtles can be fun too. although, as discussed on other threads, certain current maps need to be adjusted to make this even possible against an 'ok' D.
- if you burn spam on the wrong place, you'll probably get a lot of tks. if not then you're probably using it correctly.
-pod spam is not that annoying, unless you're a heavy without the pod or chaingun.
anybody else noticed that the pod downward thrust is quite faster, it can be used to move faster instead of using the other thrusters. i wonder if that is intended.
-constant base rape is a fact of pubs. team is not coordinated enough to take out the rover around the back and they're all busy with the constant heavy loving pouring into the base.

In T2 try capping a flag on certain maps when you have 2 skilled snipers behind the stand and 2 skilled snipers somewhere in the middle. Maybe you suck so much ass at sniping you don't realize how effective they can be. Its nearly impossible unless you have people actively going after the snipers to interupt their defense. The best way to do this is to snipe the snipers. I agree with Baub that it CAN be lame if someone just sits there firing off the rifle and not contributing to his team, but hes not effecting the game either way so who cares, besides thats why the laser rifle has limited ammo now. O-Sniping has its place in Tribes if not abused. As a sniper its my job to take out O-Snipers, which I do and I hardly ever get killed by one. As for people spawn-camping with the sniper rifle, everyone spawns as a medium now so its nothing more then a nuisance.

I guess you just have to deal w/ it. Every game has it's Pros and Cons.

And the pod haters: yeah the spam is annoying, but the thing is too damn slow to dodge a well-placed disc or dodge a GOOD light light player (emphasis on the good).

im not saying that, i cause i hat the pod spam just as much as the next guy, but the difference between me and him is that i can deal with it and can take a pod out if need be.

point of this thread is that the game devolves into cheap and uninteresring options pretty quickly. after getting owned 3 times in a row by a pod and some fire, guess what options the opposing team is going to move to?

surprise, the burner works fine, but that pretty much means someone should stay on it, or a tank works pretty good too, or a turret.

but you know what? waiting for a pod isn't fun. or realizing that a pod is coming in and going to the inv and repairing to get your burner isn't fun either, and bumping around if you aren't 100% careful about your skiing isn't fun either.

all the little shazbot really ads up, and when people throw a lot of time against it, it multiplies. this thread creator is completely on target. if you ignore the little stuff dont be surprised when the majority of people turn off, because thats what happens in response to "minor annoyances"

thatts y u dont wait for the pod:
u should balence ur pack to the game situaton, if there are pod that u have to get rid of then u batter have a quick way of doing that. only a dumbass would stand around waiting for an incomming pod. as for the inv, pack switching thing get used to it that a HUGE part of tribes if u havent noticed yet. yeah the skiing in the wrong direction is bad but thats why u parctice by ur self on the maps that ur not good at so you know wherer ur going without looking so you can aim at something else, like a pod for instance.

only complaint is the pod, deal with the rest
