I am having a problem with the new computer I got off NewEgg.. here are the specs:
AMD64 3200+
1 Gig Crucial RAM
80 GB Western Digital HD
Radeon 9800 Pro
MSI NForce3 250 chipset mobo
After building it, I decided to power it up for the first time. The power would kick in, but nothing displayed on the monitor and the CD drive wouldn't respond. To attempt to fix the problem, I changed the video card, but none of the ones I tried changed a thing. I then moved on to all the common 'no post' fixes, like resetting the CMOS, rebuilding the entire computer, and changing the jumper settings. None of those fixes worked. I assumed next that it may have been a faulty mobo, so I went out to a local supplier and bought a K8N NForce3. After taking the computer apart again, I installed the new mobo and cut it back on.
This time the power wasn't even coming on. Perhaps the PSU was the faulty product all along, and maybe it was on the verge of death when I got it.. and perhaps the installation of the new mobo completely killed it. I tested the PSU on some other computers, and they all worked fine. Eventually, I got the power to come back on and the CD drive to power up and open. Unfortunately, the computer was and still isn't posting.
I know it isn't the video card, motherboard (the chances of two brand new, different brand mobos being faulty is very slim) or PSU. My processor is brand new, but it is beginning to look more and more like a victim of DOA and also the culprit by process of elimination. I really don't want to send this processor back, because I don't know for sure if it is to blame. Advice?
