pocketgamer 09-05-2004, 08:00 PM It seems to me that the reign of the Heavies is over. In T1 they were great, and in T2 they were everything. In T:V they are nothing special and it seems like Medium armor may be the better way to go instead of Heavy.
I don't ever play as a Heavy, but its still sad to see and I wonder what competition will be like in T:V. The Heavies are slow, weak, and easly killed by a Light or Medium, so why bother with them. I honestly think HO is going to be a forgotten term in T:V if something doesn't happen. Everybody start getting used to saying MO. :ugh:
What say you?
This is just what I gather from playing T:V for 2 days now. Already in the Beta it has begun, I have seen a fairly large decline in the past day alone. Playing T1 and T2 you can always expect to see tons of heavies doing one thing or another, but now it looks like I only see them on defense.

Blitz 09-05-2004, 08:06 PM I say that you cannot make assumptions off of your own individual opinion. All it takes is ONE good HO to blow up your statement. It's not forgotten nor is it obsolete, it all comes down to how good YOU are as a player. Same way people complain about defense. It's just alittle harder this time around, not gone or forgotten. Neither is the 'engineer' role. Heavy offense goes into this category, it is by no means underpowered or overpowered, if your good your good. I see very little if any at all difference.
EDIT: As a matter of fact, I was just pubbing and had an onslought of 4 HO's and they Effed us up bad. Even a constant oncoming HO by himself does alot to be a pain in the ass.
pocketgamer 09-05-2004, 08:13 PM Thats just the thing.
1 good Ho can do a ton of damage to those weak bases, but a good medium could do just as much damage. In that sense they are overpowered, but I don't think thats the case. I think the base defense just sucks.
In T2 you needed lots of HO's to take down a base. Ho's were hard to kill, even if they didn't kill you, it would still take a while to kill them (unless you lanced them).
Gone are the huge bases of T2. Now all that is needed is a sneaky medium to sneak in and take your base down.
Origim 09-05-2004, 08:18 PM With a speed pack and a grappling hook, I'm a heavy who is almost as fast as a light.
Spiderman 09-05-2004, 08:38 PM I've played in a few scrims and the HO are a very big deal.
REDM0SQUIT0 09-05-2004, 08:44 PM I actually think mediums may see more of a decline than heavies. At first I thought only 3 guns is gonna suck but the mortar is pretty devastating in TV and I dont really miss the extra weapons. The skiing is funny with heavies more so than other armors, the lateral pull when moving forward seems to be more dramatic than it should be. But other than that I like going ho.
I-C-E 09-05-2004, 08:48 PM heavies just don't last as long as they used to, right now. I was making some runs earlier that were pretty devastating and lasted awhile.
pyrot3chnic 09-05-2004, 08:54 PM Heavies aren't going anywhere.. find me on one of the 5150 servers and I'll show you...
BFGanksta 09-05-2004, 09:01 PM Aside from winterlake the heavies can get to the bases pretty fast so dying quick isn't that big of an issue. If you have a planned route and have a definite target 9 of 10 times you'll destroy it and be back before they get it all the way up.

Greywolf 09-05-2004, 09:08 PM HO or HOF, both are still played and needed/useful on all maps
RedHerring 09-05-2004, 09:08 PM I think the mortar is way too powerful of a weapon to not be used offensively.
Also, imho, it is the most difficult position to play. That's why you don't see a lot in pubs in the beta.
pyrot3chnic 09-05-2004, 09:14 PM I love the position so far... It can become very deadly if you can manage to keep punching through the opposing defense at least every other run.
StormMage 09-05-2004, 09:17 PM I would hardly call it over. I play heavy almost exclusivly on most maps. It is still quite deadly and if you outfit it right it is a monster. It does take getting used to moving fast in it which might be the main deterent right now. But with a little practice you can move relatively fast.
The only other armor I really play is medium for piloting etc.

Right - until about 4 hours ago, I agreed with the poster, and thought that HO was no longer as strong an option as it used to be. Then I had *one good player* hand me my A** in Winterlake repeatedly. He killed me and the rest of the base D consistently each run in Heavy/Shield. HO is NOT DEAD.
eM.Einsteinium 09-05-2004, 10:25 PM Yeah, when you see a good heavy in play, you'll realize that it still has its place. It is tough to play though, and the quick routes to the base aren't well known like they were in T1/T2. Give it time, and once other people find the routes, you'll be seeing more heavies.
I get bitched at a lot in pubs because I can get back to the enemy base with Heavy/Shield right as they get gens up. That's when you know it's really effective when every newb on the server is complaining and dropping.

Either way, its not the same.
It's nothing like it was in T1 and T2. Sure its not going anywhere, but I think we will see way less Ho's making up a Tribe. Maybe its a good thing that medium now has more of a use, but it just feels diffrent to me.
Magikal Groove 09-06-2004, 12:17 AM There's no reason HO has to play the exact same role in TV that it played in T1/T2 imo. Either way, I've been messing with HO and even though I still completely suck and have no routes it still seems a worthwhile armor choice. If I didn't get bounced around so bad while on the ground HO would be very strong in the game the way I see it.

You sir, effing suck at this game. Go play pong, pussymuch.
The Pope 09-06-2004, 12:32 AM I'm playing HO almost exclusively and doing quite well.
