pocketgamer 09-05-2004, 05:40 PM I like the EB as it somewhat resembles a low tech shock lance. However, for now, the EB is useless. It deals almost no damage, and its reach is weak.
If the distance that it could reach was doubled, or maybe tripled, it still wouldn't have the reach of an SL, but it would be more possible to get off some amazing shots.
As for power, it should be able to deal a huge amount of damge to Heavies from behind, but not kill them. Seeiing as how Heavies seem weak in T:V, the EB would be too powerful if it killed them when shot in the back, but it would make it easier for a light to kill a heavy if they got a good blow to the back of the heavy. It should be able to Kill lights, as if you can get behind a light in the middle of a dual, and manage to get the shot off, then you deserve the kill.
For now the EB seems useless, but it could become a sweet weapon, that with work would be practical to use.
clockw0rk 09-05-2004, 05:42 PM whats an inf
SuicideSnowman 09-05-2004, 05:43 PM Uh what? INF isn't a weapon. That's just a weapon with infinite ammo. Are you talking about the energy blade?
Clamchop 09-05-2004, 05:45 PM He means energy blade, and I agree it is a little weak, but I think the whole point was to NOT have it as powerful as the shocklance.
pocketgamer 09-05-2004, 05:45 PM lol, yeah, the energy blade. My bad. I never saw the name, I just saw INF, which I failed to put 2 and 2 together. Editing post now.
GB.Arkady 09-05-2004, 05:45 PM No
the energy blade is not the shocklance, nor should it be made into the shocklance by boosting damage, reach, or both.
clockw0rk 09-05-2004, 05:45 PM Hahahaha
clockw0rk 09-05-2004, 05:46 PM hey i love the 20 weapon
clockw0rk 09-05-2004, 05:47 PM i mean..spinfusor

I know they didn't want to have an SL, but to have a ghetto version would still be cool, and require even more skill on the users part.
Double, or even triple the reach is still way short of 15 meters.
And I am just talking maybe half the power from behind as the SL, and maybe 80% of the SL from front.
Right now the EBlade is useless. There is no point to have it. It could be made in to a weapon that required a lot of skill/practice to use, but worth using if used right.
Not nearly as powerful as the SL, but still as fun.
SuicideSnowman 09-05-2004, 05:53 PM Everybody carries it. That's why it's "useless". It's like the fists in Doom, the axe in Quake, the knife in ET.

Those were very useful for some 'leet' kills. The INF is useless. If they did what I am proposing, it would still be useless to 90% of gamers, but a few percent would really get good with it and whip it out just at the right time for a devistating kill.
Apotheosis 09-05-2004, 06:02 PM The knife is a "fall back" weapon. It's your option of last resort, or the fun thing you use when waiting for your match to start. It's not supposed to do a lot of damage, and there is no way we're going to change that. It exists so that you are never without the potential to do damage.
I can't wait for the demo where the chaser runs out of ammo and ends up knifing the capper on his stand and making a return..
pocketgamer 09-05-2004, 06:04 PM .
It sounds liek Thrax only does what he thinks best for the game, so I don't know why anyone lists a suggestion as he is just going to get deffensive.
Well there are always mods to make the game good when the developers fail. ;)
I saw 2 people duelling with energy blades yesterday. It was the most retarded thing I've ever seen in tribes.

Yep, I tried to dual with it, but then I realized it did no damge and had no range.

It just sounds like you're from the T2 camp (whether you've played T2 or not).
I'm from the T1 camp, and I agree with the way Thrax feels about the Energy Blade.
The point is that it's a "fall back" weapon. If you don't like it, pretend it doesn't exist, because it's not supposed to be very useful, and it's not intended to be used as one of your main weapons. It's just something to do a small amount of damage with if you run out of ammo for every single other weapon you hold.
FishStix 09-05-2004, 06:11 PM its not the SL, and it will never take the place of it
pocketgamer 09-05-2004, 06:14 PM I have played both T1 and T2 a number of years.
I just started using the SL on a regular basis just a few months ago.
The shocklance was one of the best powerful weapons I have used in a game. It had a lot of power, but you had to be in the correct situation and have the skill to pull off the move. Only a few people in each server get a kill or two with the SL in a game. So its not over powered in any way.
The EB could become one of the cooler weapons of T:V without having near the amount of power it did in T2. It would still be there as a fallback weapon, and it usally only would be a fall back weapon. It wouldn't be something you would use often, just one that you would use at those special moments when everything is set up perfectly for the useage of it. It only could add to gameplay.
