Iriticus 09-01-2004, 08:37 AM What the hell?
What happened to these guys? One minute they were strong, now I could kill one with a wet rag?
They're weak, they're slow moving without thrusters, and the mortar doesn't always kill. What's the deal here? Have I just not gotten used to heavies yet? Am I missing a vital part of my loadout? Or do heavies just effing suck?
I landed a shell next to a light this evening. He moved after it went off. Yeah, he moved to scratch the effing itch on his shoudler that I left him with. What the hell happened to killing lights our right when you mortar them? What's with this new "Push them to the side do some damage" crap?
ChowTOdust 09-01-2004, 08:39 AM I've only experienced this build, and I have to say I think the mortar balance is spot on... the heavy life pretty ok... and different possibilities with different packs... I'd wait before changing anything honestly. :)
Wendel 09-01-2004, 08:45 AM I am not happy with the heavy armor so far. Most notably, the skiing...
I will withhold my final judgement until I have more time spent in-game but as of yet, I'm not too happy about the heavy's movement and skiing.
I think I need to experiment with the energy-pack/jump-pad combo more. But getting across the map in heavy without these two things can be painful as all hell at times.
Is the idea to do away with HO?
Todesfall 09-01-2004, 08:47 AM I landed a shell next to a light this evening. He moved after it went off. Yeah, he moved to scratch the effing itch on his shoudler that I left him with. it was probally a shield pack it does wonders.
skiing in general is slow unless you have routes or huge hills around.
ParoxysM 09-01-2004, 08:51 AM The heavies dont have the same q0wnage as in the past...they get knocked around too much by disks and mortars do less damage :(
Iriticus 09-01-2004, 09:01 AM Todesfall: Aye, I thought of that just after I posted this. I also thought it may have been a medium, although after it happened I asked in Global what was up, and the guys I was playing with (It was like a 3v3 pub) just said "Yeah that happens now and then". I don't think they were using a shield pack, the guys I was against aren't the type to LD with one, but the medium armour possibility is there. However yeah, I still belief they were in light.
Wendel: I agree. I did a bit of mock HO before tonight, but did some properly this evening. It felt shazbot, I felt incredibly weak - basically nothing of what heavies should be. I was HOing in T2 for the last 6+ months btw, so I've still got my heavy thinking cap on.
Paraoxysm: Exactly. I was standing on their flag stand at one point (Cavern), facing my own. I got attacked from behind, and before I'd turned around to look at them, let alone fight back, I was dead. Hand grenades and two discs and I was gone. Ridiculous.
Disciple 09-01-2004, 09:07 AM hand grenades do some major damage I agree.
mikeax2 09-01-2004, 09:23 AM I have seen a few players that are damn good in heavy w/shield pack and from what I have noticed, with a little practice/skill, these guys were having little to no issue base raping against a well defended base. I think the heavy is just like any other suit and has a learning curve that most people aren't applying themselves to.
90% of the guys in heavy armor in pubs stop mid ski to engage me while in medium armor to duel. Probably not the best strat, but it does seem to be the fad. However, you have the seasoned players who know exactly what the purpose of ordinance and a bit more armor is for.
The heavy is fine...Ski's really fast for a ton of metal.. Has the mortar which is very powerful... Mortar + Burner is a ton of fast dmg, add a grenade or 2 into the spam then say that the heavy is disappointing and weak.

SHOOSH!!!!
Hellsfury 09-01-2004, 09:27 AM "Impulse" from weapons fire should be reduced against the Heavies. Many times I'm running for the doorway with a speed pack and I start taking alittle damage, "hitching" me in place (unfairly impeding forward motion). Or I can be on a flag stand and it's far too easy to "pop" me off the platforms or towers of Cavern and Winterlake (for example). With a single disk from the incoming capper I end up on the ground, out of the way.
Candide 09-01-2004, 09:47 AM I agree that the heavy seems a little lightly armored. I think the weapons are ok but their mobility and armor seem light comparatively.
I find myself using a speed pack to get more mobility since I can't seem to get much skiing momentum going (maybe its just the maps that are in beta) relative to what I can do with a medium or light. The shield pack helps but once you have lost the momentum of skiing and are left walking you are chewed up and spit out in no time. Up the armor a bit is my 2 cents worth.
But the weapons are ok in my opinion.
{A} PR24 09-01-2004, 10:12 AM The heavy armour seems a bit weak but everything else is awsome. Skiing take skillz in heavy now which I love. It shows the players who put forth some effort to learn how to ski in Heavy and the ones that are fly by night.
But 3 disc shots should not own a heavy that easy.
Ben Dover 09-01-2004, 10:14 AM Heavies are pretty much worthless as they are right now.
Spiderman 09-01-2004, 10:24 AM Heavies are pretty much worthless as they are right now.
Honestly I think it's the way base entrances are on Winterlake and Cavern that make them seem so useless. Heavies are a pain in the ass on emerld and can be on that isle map if they played the right way.
Killjoy 09-01-2004, 10:24 AM I think Discs do way to much damage to Heavy armors.. but besides that it seems fine. Maybe bump the Armor to 250ish and all will be well
The day of heavies is over guys, deal.. You will see some HO and an occasional HD, but it is mostly goinng be lights and meds.
BadMoFo 09-01-2004, 10:29 AM where is strega?
he should be here to hump the mortar any second now.
eisencc 09-01-2004, 10:43 AM they've kinda lost their rep. they're now more like 'oh look, an easy kill' and most of the light and medium join the spamming of the slow moving target.
imho, they need more exclusive weaponry. bigger versions of the weapons etc..
something for them to keep some of their forgotten tribes legacy ;)
jotun 09-01-2004, 10:43 AM invulnerability when spawning needs to be shorter, and needs to be ended by firing or doing other things
there needs to be at least a few seconds between when someone dies and when they can respawn
and yeah, they need more health.
