Zelgaddiss 09-01-2004, 03:44 AM when i'm goin 100+ kph and a pass a guy i shoot far enough in advanced to hit him.. but after i click .25-.5 sec later i see the disc and it misses.
Same as midair, i zoom in to "snipe" a tank thats standing still and its dead on but when i fire it always misses its mark.
Dunno if thats supposed to happen due to my speed but it can get annoying.
Asura 09-01-2004, 03:45 AM discs inheret you velocity, so anything you aim at will be missed if you aim for the target itself. aim a little behind it to have a better chance of hitting.
jotun 09-01-2004, 03:46 AM onoes, it's physics!
yes, if you're moving at all you're going to have a hard time hitting distant objects with your projectile weapons. It can be done, but it takes a bit of extra calculation
it's one of the beautiful things about tribes
Asura 09-01-2004, 03:46 AM nice sig jotun.

well if we're coming @ each other i do aim ahead, but what about the stationary targets
bartkusa 09-01-2004, 03:49 AM You need to think. If you're flying towards something standing still, the disc is going to move "forward" more than normal. Aim a bit low.
EDIT: Maybe you're just lagging. Sometimes I click and the projectiles don't leave my gun for a bit either. My internet connection isn't so hot sometimes, and that's one way I can tell my ping is ass.
Asura 09-01-2004, 03:50 AM the only time you will hit your mark is if your standing stock still.

if thats the case, then why dont thediscs arc after a while due to gravity but they will fly till they hit something
Zelgaddiss 09-01-2004, 03:52 AM the only time you will hit your mark is if your standing stock still.
even if it is standing still it still does not hit.
like a buggy or somthing where someone is just in the gun turret
JodoFett 09-01-2004, 03:53 AM if thats the case, then why dont thediscs arc after a while due to gravity but they will fly till they hit something
Inherents player momentum but I don't think they are affected by gravity.
Asura 09-01-2004, 03:53 AM they are going so fast that they have a small amount of lift. therefore, they dont arc in an area as small as everything in the OOB grid. if the map was 4k then they might with realistic physics.
Zelgaddiss 09-01-2004, 03:55 AM eh, just wondering if it was me, but i guess not.. seems awfully long of a delay between pulling the trigger and firing tho.

it's sci-fi. They're anti-gravity magnetically propelled discs.
even if it is standing still it still does not hit.

nonono
YOU have to be standing still for your projectiles to go exactly where you point them. If you're moving 15mph to the right when you fire, your projectile will be drifting right at 15mph too. Tribes is the only game I know that works like this... but it's the right way. T1 did it, T2 did it, and T:V does it (for most things).
Zelgaddiss 09-01-2004, 03:58 AM but the main point of my post was that there was what seemed to be a lag between pulling the trigger and firing, i can look to the left/up/down/right after i fire and see my disc but it shouldnt be there
jotun 09-01-2004, 04:02 AM maybe you're just seeing the normal lag that's been in multiplayer games for as long as they've existed...
IrritAnt 09-01-2004, 04:11 AM It certainly just sounds like lag, but just to make sure...
Can you try recording a demo or scoring some video for use please?
