ness9 08-30-2004, 08:50 PM Anytime I try to play TV online it crashes my router which entails me losing my connection and having to reset :(
This is the router I have:

anyone have any ideas on fixing this problem?
WorstAim 08-30-2004, 08:58 PM Damn thats a suck ass problem. Oribital told me in Tribes 1 that he had T:V but it crashed his comp and destroyed some files. He had to reformat. Anyone know what could be causing these probs?
starwolf_nexus 08-30-2004, 08:59 PM duno but my router crashes more frequently now that I've been playing T:V
EViL JiM 08-30-2004, 09:05 PM I would file this under unlikely... since the router is a piece of hardware and tribes doesn't do anything outside the bounds of TCP/IP protocols.
haha, I've got the same problem, also w/ a belkin router, I've got a thread in General Discussion about it
Amadeus 08-31-2004, 05:41 AM my router > your router, because it doesn't need the help of T:V to crash
vav
Not a T:V bug necessarily, more a router bug. It happens in America's Army too :(
This is my post in GD
So I have a cheap Belkin router (stfu I got a good deal on it at the time so thats really the only reason I have it) model F5D5230-4.
I have an issue where everytime either T:V or America's Army is run the router stops responding (to an extent). This happens on multiple machines, multiple OS's, and multiple NIC cards from diff manufacturers.
It only happens when initially checking/refreshing the server list. The router will no longer respond to pings, it cannot be logged into. My DSL modem's activity ceases (although it holds sync) and I cannot ping outside the gateway. However, I can still ping other machines over the network and get a response.
I have the most recent firmware but have yet to find ANYWHERE that hosts old firmware. Yes, I've reflashed it w/ the most recent anyway.
The issue does NOT occur if I keep my DSL modem disconnected from the router (ie it is a response from the master server that is causing the DoS on my router). In other words I can host a local game, disconnect the DSL modem and still refresh w/ no problems.
Any ideas, I'm up for anything at this point.

Its definately TV and the router (more so the router). Sometimes I can get a server list, other times it just brings down the whole network, god I need a fix for this.

Could not find your post in there, have you figured anything out as far as fixing it?
JodoFett 08-31-2004, 02:50 PM Hmm, my router has never crashed. Course it's a Linksys.
free|Justice 08-31-2004, 02:55 PM Zyxel here, works fine so far.
ness9 08-31-2004, 03:09 PM The only fix Ive found so far involves setting the DMZ address to match your assigned IP. This does not work for me. Someone else suggested it may be a directx issue?
directx, rofl
No I haven't found a fix for it. I'm desperately looking for an older firmware I can reflash it with.
ness9 08-31-2004, 06:52 PM Has this fix worked for anyone?

It did not work for me, but what about just disabling the firewall altogether? Waiting on my roommate to leave so I can start effing with it again....
Teflonatron 08-31-2004, 07:42 PM The lesson is, don't buy a belkin router.... :p
Honestly, I think you'll probably have more luck with Belkin's tech support. Also, you might try grabbing a packet dump on either side of the router (I know, you probably don't know how to do this, and it would take way to long to explain how in this response...) to see exactly what is going on.
From what I see in this thread (and the linked belkin tech support page) it's probably a problem with how Belkin handles NAT routing. (NAT = Network Address Translation, it changes your tcp/ip packets IP address from your computers 192.168.x.x address, to your routers valid Internet IP address, and it probably freaks out when T:V hits it. :p)

someone suggested turning the Firewall and NAT off within the router. I did that and afterwards my connection would not work at all, oh well :(
Bronyraur 09-07-2004, 08:12 PM I have the same router and same problems you explained.Tried all the same shazbot to fix with and other things to boot.
