This is the same thing that happened when T2 came out. There were those that knew right off the bat that it did not feel like tribes and the majority who mocked and were complete bungholes. “No you just haven’t played it long enough” “it’s a new game” blah blah blah. Now everyone agrees T2 sucked ass. Well the game feels like T2 in a different engine. Feel being the main word here. Strike two on the tribes series….. NEXT!

Yes, the feeling is the main point here. Problem is, no two human beings feel in exactly the same way. Thus, your logic is flawed.

Starsiege: Tribes is a game. Tribes 2 is a different game. Tribes: Vengeance is a very different game.

Stop comparing the three.

Cya later then. Contrary to popular belief this game isn't called T1/2: Vengeance. Its supposed to be different.

Yes, but to an extent... The over feel of the game should hold the T1 & T2 methodology in terms of game play, and I think it does, but for me, it's just going to take a little getting used too. Then again, it took a while for me to break from T1 over to T2. Eventually it wore on me.

This new version looks very promising, and I will be interested to see what additions will be added and so forth after release.

Did any of you notice the download size for this game was near 500 - 600 MB? Does that seem sort of small to any of you compared to all the newer games out?

You didn't download any single player content, and you only downloaded 4 maps.

In regards to the being able to hold down space to ski. Did you not use scripts at all or something? I could have sworn there were tons of scripts for both games that would just keep hitting spacebar as soon as you tapped it. It's the same thing, it's just labeled "ski" not jump.

And your other points are just complete shazbot.

It worked out of the box in T2.

The funny thing is that I started using a ski script in T1 only to get used to how it will be in T:V, but it ended up with me getting a lot more caps... :roller:

To show how well Sierra thinks TV will be taken in look at the creators of TV. The entire studio is being shut down and people are losing their jobs. Go figure....

Mark my post..... TV will be a huge failure IMO. Guess we will all have to wait and see, but point back here when it happens.

I am a UT2004 whore and this feels absolutely nothing like UT. Even the art style is so different. Blood Eagle models are the coolest looking models I've ever seen btw.

I know a little about UT too. http://www.worldogl.com/view_clan_info.php?clanid =921

And after a few hours of playing my thoughts changed a lot. I first thought it was UT with jetpacks, man was I wrong.

Be honest now, there are only about 6 registered members on tribalwar who actually play tribes, the rest of you are actually special needs students with to much free time.

I dont know why I even bother reading these effing retarded newbie posts.
Its been the same shazbot for what, 7 years?

Wahhhh T1 jump.cs runined the game! :closet:
Wahhhh T2 we will bitch until they rush an unfinished build. :closet:
Wahhhh TV it dosent run well on my sega master system! :closet:

eff if you you dont like the effing game, stfu and go play cs2, dont post all over a dedicated forum how your really upset, because you sucked at both previous games, and you've only just realised that you will suck hard at this one as well, because it dosent have deploayble aircraft carriers, the death star, or de_dust.

I bet that each effing dev, grimace's when its thier turn to check what the effing retard police think of thier efforts.

So anyway Ive played for a few days - when bugs are fixed it will be a great sequel.

Now eff off.

Ok, I'm a veteran of both T1 and T2 and played both of those games competitively. I'll just compare TV to T1 because if you compare to T2 all the idiots here just say something dumb like "T2 sucks, blaaaaa". So, I'll only mention T2 when the same thing applies from T1.

Pros compared to T1:
Better Graphics

(Pros compared to T2: Faster skiing)
(Pros compared to T2 Classic: not sure there are any...I guess marginally better graphics)

Cons:
Unintuitive pack system: packs on a timer instead of using energy. WTF? In Tribes 1 it made sense in that everything drained power, shield pack, repair pack, whatever, it all drained power. In both T1 (and T2) there was skill involved in managing your power usage when you had a shield pack. Now the new shield pack is basically uselss. It lasts like 5 seconds and then is gone for 30. Why not just remove it from the game?

Repairing is ridiculous: Once again we have the unintuitive system of a pack that you trigger and then it goes away. This system simply sucks. And the repair pack repairs everything in a radius which is incredibly cheesy. The way the repair pack worked in T1 and T2 was fine. If anything the T2 repair was the best just because it had a range of 10 feet instead of 3 feet. I'd rather have a repair pack that drains my power and lets me repair what really needs it, than one that repairs every friggin' thing, but then runs out before the gen is even up again. The change to the repair pack added absolutely nothing to the game and it RUINED a whole lot by taking out any sort of tactics involved in repairing (ie, essentials first, one inv, then everything else later).

Jets provide too much upward thrust, but no forward momentum or maneuverability. You shoot upwards like a rocket ship, but barely move forward. You can't move side to side or change direction worth a damn. This has resulted in an overwhelming number of MAs and has also ruined the overall feel of the game. The jet pack needs to be more like it was in T1 and T2 with it giving speed and side to side movement as well as upward thrust. No one really wants to just go straight up 500 feet in the air, that's never been what the game was about. Skiing is also a pain in the ass now, because you can't change direction more than about 0.1 degree. If there's a tree in your path you have to go over it, because there's no way to go around it. Oh, and there are a lot more trees and stuff to get in your way now which makes this even worse.

New deployable system: Congratulations, in one fell swoop you managed to totally remove a position that has been played for both T1 and T2. I guess everyone who played a deployer before is just SOL. You know, maybe deploying wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but some people actually enjoyed it. Being a good deployer took skill. You had to work to keep the base up, keep turrets out, keep your HoF repaired, etc. The only place it was ever a problem was on some pubs (and even then there was usually a deployer). So, in order to dumb the game down for pubs you totally removed an entire competitive aspect of the game. Thanks a lot!

Crappy weapons: The disc explosion radius is ridiculous. Also, the disc projectile speed is way slower than in T2, meanwhile skiing speed is faster and air maneuverability has been reduced. I guess the disc is more similar to T1, but I think with the faster movement speed you'd have been better off sticking with the T2 disc. Regardless, that part is personal preference, the explosion is ridiculous though.

The burner, is this supposed to actually be better than the Plasma Gun that it replaced? See, the plasma gun was actually useful for base defense, the burner is not. It doesn't fire fast enough or do damage like the plasma does. It's too easy for someone to just get out of the burn radius and then they're so close that you just hurt yourself. This is a terrible replacement for the plasma and a basically useless gun.

The blaster is totally weird too, it used to be a somewhat decent gun in T2 and it was so-so in T1 (pretty useless, but it could be good when you spawned and had to clear out the base). The new one has projectiles that are so fast you can't even see them. It doesn't feel like much of blaster either.

The mortar has too short a timer on the explosion and seems way too easy to use, much easier than in T1 or T2. Maybe I'm mistaken but it feels that way. The explosion looks really wimpy for what the mortar is supposed to do. It doesn't look/sound like it does a serious amount of damage.

Inventory system which is less intuitive than T2, or T1 fast favorites. I thought you were trying to simplify the game, yet the inventory system is actually more confusing and difficult to use than the one implemented in T2? You should bring back the loadout screen so you can easily change stuffs on the fly, and you should also bring back the whole loadout system from T2. Having a full screen inventory interface is bad, you don't know what's going on and there's no need for it. Bare bones is fine, we don't need pictures of guns and armors, just select what we need from a drop down list. The new interface system is just a pain in the ass to use.

IFF system is unnecessarily confusing: just have it show red for enemies and green for friendlies. Don't have the IFF color coded to the teams, that's just annoying. I don't care if my team is "blue", if I see a friendly he should have a green triangle and an enemy should have a red. This is easy to understand. When I'm playing I don't want to have to sit there thinking "ok, I'm blue, blue is good, enemies is orange, orange is bad". Once again, this was supposed to be a simplification? Another problem: the IFF arrows are too small and don't stand out as much. In T1/T2 you could see the IFF arrows very easily, they really stood out. There was nothing wrong with this system!!!

I guess what it comes down to is all of your unnecessary changes suck. They didn't add anything to the game...everything worked just fine before. The pack changes are something you'd see in a game like UT2k4 not Tribes. The lack of maneuverability is not true to either of the original games at all. All the skill/tactics have been removed from shield use, repairing, deploying, yet none of that has simplified the game, it's just dumbed it down. It didn't matter if you didn't get that into base defense/deploying before, you could still do it pretty easily, so it took nothing away from a n00b. But if you used some strategy you could be more effective at it.

Now that is just totally gone. That is the definition of dumbed down, something that takes away from a game without noticeably improving it in anyway whatsoever. Tribes is never going to be as successful as UT, and you should just accept that. It will always be a niche. And didn't T2 sell like 500K copies? I just don't understand why you are ruining a game by trying to make it something it's not.

First thing is first. Graphics are better, and anyone can see that. If you knew anything you would know Tribes 1 nor 2 had Bumpmapping or diffuse glows.
Secondly, Your stupid Ski input. Go to options you lazy ****, You can set it up like T2 but it's not like it really changes anything, the only thing that changes is no your view bobs cuz of the jumping. Speed is pretty much exactly the same if not faster the new way.
As for getting stuck and hung, I haven't got stuck once, but every time I play T 1 or 2 I hit a square of invisibleness and completly halt.
As for netcode, It's exceptionally well in comparison to either T games. I don't have to lead at all, sounds like you have connect problems. Thats not a netcode problem, thats a personal problem.
The load outs, yes I can understand, but thats like all the stubborn T 1 vets who said the T2 loadout was slower, and more annoying. (I laugh at those people). Thats something you just need to get used to.
The overall feel is Very tribes like. Down to the floating into transition on your favorate skii route.
Vehicles, The pod is reminds me much of the Scout Flyer from T1, with a make over. (i hate the new look but it's very similar, although not as fast.) The Jump Tank owns, it just looks stupid. But they finally fixed the turret seat, now when the tank turns it dont turn their view, so they can be accurate at what they wanna shoot.
The Rover is like a super fast version of an MPB. Just without the auto Turret on the top. Oh and the new bomber.... Thats just a fun vehicle, and looks nice.
Animations are way nicer, as the flight animation and such. Tribes 2 looks stupid when you took to flight, I always had a problem with the 1 knee up thing.
As for small spider clamps, yeah they were nice, but certainly not gonna make or break a game.
Smaller Deployables such as? Homing beacons???? lol

Sounds like to me, you sucked at T:V, cuz you prolly suck at T1 and T2 also, and your used to those, and don't wanna give the tweaked physics a chance!

We don't need negative people like you in the community anywho, so good riddens!

Oh as for skiing not being menuverable, Let go of your ski key for a split second, it dont kill too much speed, but grips just enuff to pull a 45º wich is more then any tribes game ever.

That is the effect of stupidity. In the controls menu, there is a Check Box that you HAVE TO ENABLE to turn that on, if you don't enable it default is like classic Tribes.

Shmuck-face.

I don't know about you, but when i take off... I can do a whole 360 with enuff energy to keep moving in the direction i wanna go.
