DELIVERANCE 08-28-2004, 02:50 AM Ok I downloaded the beta from file planet unpacked it and installed it with no problems. But when I try to run the game I get the following message "Tribes Vengeance requires the permission to write to TV.exe's folder. Please run the game that has the appropriate permissions" now naturally im using the admin account and I even reformated my computer before loading this please help me ive tryed everything and am about to go insane.
Jelly 08-28-2004, 02:51 AM check the properties of the folder, make sure they arent readonly
DELIVERANCE 08-28-2004, 02:52 AM Which folder exactly.
Colosus 08-28-2004, 02:57 AM c:\program files\vugames\tribes vengeance beta\
If that's where you installed to
DELIVERANCE 08-28-2004, 03:00 AM Wow a reply from colosus himself I feel speacial. Oh right back to my problem, ok I tryed what you guys said and it was indeed set to read only BUT when I try to change the file attribute it comes up with another error and says the access is denied and gives me the option to either ignore or retry. If I ignore it appears to go through the process but nothing changes and if I retry it just keeps giving me the error.
KillerONE 08-28-2004, 03:03 AM Sounds like the permissions were changed or something.
REMOVE T:V.
Then install into a new folder. C:\TV or something.

Did you install this game as admin and then log in as another user?
DELIVERANCE 08-28-2004, 03:05 AM Nope thats what funny about it there is only one user and ofcourse its the admin.
Colosus 08-28-2004, 03:07 AM No idea then. Try to uninstall it and run through the installer again. Something wonky is going on with your permissions, but not sure why. (I love the word wonky)
DELIVERANCE 08-28-2004, 03:22 AM Could the fact that im using windows service pack 1 have anything to do with this at all?
Colosus 08-28-2004, 03:23 AM On XP? No. That's what I have as well. Most people around here refuse to upgrade to SP2 because it is bugged.
DELIVERANCE 08-28-2004, 03:26 AM This is driving me crazy I wait for weeks for the OB to be realeased and now I cant even play it because of some stupid permissions.
Jelly 08-28-2004, 03:28 AM SP1 for life
_Kater_ 08-28-2004, 03:28 AM Install to a non NTFS-Drive?
MonkeyHero 08-28-2004, 03:30 AM Drives formatted with NTFS work fine.
-MT-Stealth 08-28-2004, 03:32 AM My folder/files are read only as well, and it works just fine. Are you 100% sure you're admin user? Go to control panel and check. also, try running as the real administrator account:
log off, and for the username type "administrator" and whatever pw you used during set up. If you have fast switching enabled (or whatever it's called) and you cannot see login dialog box then hit ctrl+alt+del (at the user screen)
DELIVERANCE 08-28-2004, 03:32 AM Ok sorry but I suck with computers what exactly does NTFS stand for.
On a side note are there any security or admin options I need to change because I reformated my computer before installing this and I may have forgoten something.
_Kater_ 08-28-2004, 03:35 AM Drives formatted with NTFS work fine.
I didn't mean to imply that NTFS s**ks. I just meant that with FAT partitions you do not have the hassle of permissions, simply because it is not implemented on file system level. I'm running a Win2k here with only the system partition being NTFS, and two FAT partitions. Runs like a charm, never had ANY trouble with that....
-MT-Stealth 08-28-2004, 03:36 AM don't worry about NTFS stuff, it has nothing to do with it, ignore it.
how exactly did you reformat?
Do this: right click on My Computer > Manage > Local Users and Groups > Users
what accounts are listed? which one are you using? Right click on the account that you're using and go to Properties, make sure you're a member of administrators group.

uhhh..... NTFS doesn't suck (I know you said you didnt imply that), quite opposite, FAT SUCKS. Why the eff would you be running FAT32?!
