Need to fix cpu utilization

What the hell is up with the game running at 99-100% cpu utilization?

I have a P4 3.06 with 2 gig ram.

Wonder why players computers lock up after a while! My locked as well but before I was able to end task the program. My memory usage for the .exe was slightly under 350 meg. Anyone with a gig or more see the same memory usage from the game?

Other than that, the game looks really good.

I have been playing Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising lately. With my mobile 2600+ overclocked to 2.3Ghz, my cpu utilization is normally only around 10%. My 9800pro gets severely taxed, but the cpu is barely used.

mc-fine is right, keep task manager open and fullscreen any game for a minute or so, then check the cpu usage graph.

The problem would be if it was sucking down 100% while minimized..

10%?! 45% is what you get from rolling the scroll wheel down a webpage not to mention 3d calculations and physics. Hmm i find that hard to believe. Quake, Quake2, Quake3, UT, UT2k4, HL, Doom3 and all games using those engines all run at 100% CPU utilization for me.

You run other programs at the same time it will remain at 100% but your performance will be lower because the load is being shared. Why shouldn't the CPU devote all available resources for best performance?

The perfectly coded game makes 100% utilization of CPU and GPU when going for maximum framerate. With vsync that might not be necessary, but I don't know how you'd end up with your CPU hardly being used and GPU "severely taxed".

I think this might be an isolated issue with your machine. I have been running T:V beta since 03 and I consistently run at around 57% of my CPU Utilization. You might have alot of proggies running in your sys tray or have some spyware on your system.

you may also try to change process priority to above normal, or high to maybe get more from your processor... i tried realtime with t:v on my mediocre rig and locked it up :lol:

For response critical programs, it's adviseable to hog CPU so it can be more responsive. That is so if an event that needs to be handled quickly occurs, it does not need to context switch, thus reducing latency. I dunno however if game coders take this into account, or if it happens to be just 'bad coding' that leads to 99% CPU.....

It is poor programming with bloated code. Software weenies can make it tax out the system.

its not poor programming, its effective game programming. if you think it is bad programming, then i guess pretty much every game developer is a shazbotty programmer.

pfff that's like buying a ferrari and complaining that the rpm go too high when you push down the pedal. If you want T:V to use 10% of your system's power instead of close to 100%, that's your problem.

I'd expect the game use resources but not 99-100% when you launch it. I'm sitting at the settings menu still at 100%, why? What fricking 3D crap is it processing?

How about server load? Zed setup a server with 16 or 24 players CTF. 70% processor load on a dual athlon 2.4 with 3 gig ram.

If a game isn't using 100% of your CPU then it's probably Microsoft Hearts, and not a 3D FPS game.
